Brown Near You: Montgomery County, MD
Wednesday, April 8th | 6:30-8:00 p.m.
At this event, your Brown University admission officer will host an information session for prospective students in the area. This in-person presentation will provide in-depth information about Brown’s rigorous and unique Open Curriculum in addition to research opportunities, diversity on campus, student life, the application process, and financial aid.
Behind the Curtain: A Live Highly Selective Admissions Committee Case Study
Wednesday, April 8th | 7:00-8:00 p.m.
This session will cover a real-time look at how decisions are made in committee, evaluating "on-the-bubble" candidates with competing strengths, the role of institutional priorities in the final admit list, how "soft factors" like character and fit tip the scales, and lessons from the committee room to apply to your own applications.
WIAA (Women in Aeronautics and Astronautics) Day
Saturday, April 11th | 8:15 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
LOCATION: UMD COLLEGE PARK
WIAA Day is an event dedicated to inspiring the next generation of women aerospace engineers! Taking place on the University of Maryland's campus, the entire day will be devoted to showing attendees what it's like to be a woman in the field of aerospace engineering. Highlights include a guest speaker, lab tours, design activities, and a design challenge. Attendees will be sent a full schedule a week before the event, at the latest. Lunch and an event T-shirt will be provided.
Crafting Futures event at Northwest Stadium
Saturday, April 11th | 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
LOCATION: 1600 RING ROAD, LANDOVER, MD 20785
This event is designed as a "Skilled Trades Tailgate," offering a family-friendly environment for middle and high school students (ages 12–20), parents, and educators to explore the trades hands-on. There will be interactive exploration where students can participate in hands-on activities to experience life as a builder first-hand. Students will also have the chance to meet with trade contractors and community workforce partners to discover apprenticeship opportunities and high-demand career paths. Attends can also enter to win high-quality construction gear and sports tickets.
Financial Education for College-Bound Students
Monday, April 13th | 6:30-7:30 p.m.
This workshop will provide tips on how college students should manage their money, and will also cover credit, the credit report, and the credit score. Presenters will be from Navy Federal Credit Union.
Financial Aid Offer Review
Tuesday, April 14th | 5:00-5:45 p.m.
The Financial Aid Offer Review walkthrough provides students and families with critical information to interpret their financial aid offers. uAspire will share key details about the different types of financial aid, best practices for reviewing and comparing financial aid offers, and the essential next steps to take after determining how much each college will cost. There will also be opportunities for Q&A and follow-up support.
Field Trip to Maryland CareerQuest
Thursday, April 16th
Maryland CareerQuest is at Live! Hotel and Convention Center in Hanover, MD. This is an amazing opportunity for students to obtain valuable information and inquire about various career opportunities and the training and education they require, without having to attend a traditional four-year institution. This is a wonderful opportunity for them to develop a broader understanding of how they can turn their passions and genuine interests into an actual career.

Thursday, April 16th | 6:00-7:00 p.m.
PHEAA Access Partners will present information on the steps students should take after completing the FAFSA. They will discuss the financial aid process, strategies to review and understand financial aid offers from colleges, and how to compare different types of aid.
Smart Student Loans–How to Borrow Without Risking Your Future
Thursday, April 16th | 7:00-8:00 p.m.
This session will cover understanding the total cost of loans, federal direct loans and repayment, Parent PLUS loans and repayment, private loans and repayment, and student loans vs. HELOC. Presented by The College Funding Coach.
The Game of Life with Kiwanis Capital Next Generation
Saturday, April 18th | 12:00-3:00 p.m.
The event will feature a variety of sessions on topics ranging from applying to college, navigating the financial aid process, exploring trade schools, tips for finding a job, building a resume, developing financial literacy, and more! The lineup includes speakers from the educational system, community career services, and across industries. This event is open to any and all high school and college students ages 14-22.
AAVMC Pre-Veterinary Career Fair
Saturday, April 18th | 1:00-5:00 p.m.
The American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC) is hosting a Pre-Veterinary Career Fair for elementary, middle, high school, and undergraduate students on Saturday, April 18th, in Washington, DC. Hear from speaker Dr. Terrence Ferguson of Critter Fixer Veterinary Hospital, connect and chat with 25+ vet schools from around the world, and learn about careers in animal health! This is an in-person event at the Grand Hyatt Washington, DC, at 1000 H Street NW, Washington, DC 20001.

NACAC College Fair
Thursday, April 22nd
The NACAC College Fair is the biggest college fair on the east coast. Each year, all MCPS schools take 11th grade students to the fair, which is attended by reps from over 300 colleges and universities around the world. This is an extremely important opportunity for students to take advantage of.

The Financial Aid Timeline
Thursday, April 23rd | 6:30-7:15 p.m.
This presentation will start with an overview of financial aid basics before transitioning into providing targeted information to students from 9th grade through their higher education journey. We’ll talk about scholarships, dive into education costs, and provide resources you can take away. Students and parents are welcome! Know what to expect when it comes to paying for higher education because failing to plan is planning to fail.

Game Changer Conference
Saturday, April 25th | 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.
LOCATION: MONTGOMERY COLLEGE GERMANTOWN CAMPUS, BIOSCIENCE EDUCATION AND CONFERENCE CENTER
The conference is open to all county residents and focuses on supporting Black and African American male students grades 4-12 in achieving academic and personal success. Students will participate in grade-level sessions, and parents/guardians may attend workshops. Registration is free (advance registration encouraged) and a continental breakfast will be provided. The essay theme is "Future Ready - Inspire Change and Leveling Up is a Game Changer!" and students are invited to submit a 300-word essay responding to the prompt: What are your goals for improving your skills to achieve success in your future?

The Affording College 101 (AC 101) walkthrough will allow students and families to understand the basics of financial aid and college affordability, starting with cost of attendance and the different kinds of financial aid, along with an overview of the college affordability timeline. This walkthrough also goes into a bit more detail about uAspire’s College Cost Calculator and how to understand and pay your bill. There will also be opportunities for Q&A and follow-up support.

Summer Steps for Financial Aid

The Summer Steps for Financial Aid walkthrough provides a timeline for new and returning college students to complete during the summer. We discuss understanding and paying the college bill, applying for outside scholarships or additional loans, and various other financial aid steps (such as the Master Promissory Note and loan entrance counseling, a brief discussion on appeals, and planning for indirect expenses). There will also be opportunities for Q&A and follow-up support.
