ROTC PROGRAMS IN COLLEGE
The Reserve Officers' Training Corps is a college-based program for training commissioned officers of the United States armed forces. ROTC officers serve in all branches of the U.S. armed forces. Under ROTC, a student may receive a competitive, merit-based scholarship, covering all or part of college tuition, in return for an obligation of active military service after graduation. ROTC students attend college like other students, but also receive basic military training and officer training for their chosen branch of service through the ROTC unit at or nearby the college. The students participate in regular drills during the school year, and extended training activities during the summer.
Mary Baldwin University's Virginia Women's Institute for Leadership (VWIL) is the only all-female cadet corps in the nation. It has been active for 29 years. All full-time undergraduates are eligible to participate in all branches of ROTC at Mary Baldwin University in partnership with the Virginia Military Institute.
47% of alumni work in federal, state and local government (civilian and military). Over 60% of these have pursued military careers, criminal justice and healthcare as the top career paths. 60% of cadets identify as members of minority racial or ethnic groups.
Graduates have access to a support network of over 500 VWIL corps alumni.

REGISTER TO TAKE THE ASVAB AT MAGRUDER
The ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) is a timed, multi-aptitude test, which is given at more than 14,000 schools and Military Entrance Processing Stations (MEPS) nationwide. Although the ASVAB test was developed to help people determine the trajectory of a potential military career, there is no military obligation to take it, and the results can be used for your own future exploration.
There are currently no scheduled ASVAB test administrations for Magruder High School.
The ASVAB is administered free to interested tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grade students with parental consent. The ASVAB is an excellent career exploration tool. It can help identify student interests and aptitude in the following areas: verbal, math, science and technical skills. When scores are interpreted, students will learn how their interests and skills relate to the demands of more than 400 occupations, helping them to identify suitable career options.
COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT THE ASVAB
ASVAB results are released only to students and not to the armed services. If students wish to use their results as part of an enlistment conversation with military recruiters, they can provide their scores to the recruiter. Taking the ASVAB in no way involves a commitment to the military.
