KID Museum is now recruiting high schoolers for their Summer Teen Volunteer program. Please read their message below:
The KID Museum Teen Volunteer position is great for high schoolers who are excited about working with kids and want to gain experience in the field of education, teaching, or public speaking. Teens can have fun teaching kids in hands-on, STEAM-based activities -- all while earning SSL hours over the summer.
During the summer, we have two different positions: Sunday Only Volunteers and Camp Assistants.
Sunday Only Volunteers (rising 9th-12th grade) assist in the facilitation of hands-on, STEAM-based programming for younger children on Sundays at our downtown Bethesda location at 3 Bethesda Metro Center. Teen Volunteers must commit to two shifts per month, with one shift being an afternoon shift. Sunday shifts are 9:00am-1:30pm and 12:00pm-4:30pm.
Summer Camp Assistants (rising 10th-12th grade) support our week-long summer camps. Camp Assistants must commit to two weeks of camp throughout the summer. Each week of camp is Monday through Friday, either 8:00am-12:30pm or 12:00-4:30pm. Summer camps will be held June 22-August 21, with no camp the week of June 29-July 3. Camps take place at 3 Bethesda Metro Center and our Davis Library location. Summer Camp Assistants are also required to volunteer at least one Sunday per month.
Regardless of the position, we look for high schoolers who:
Have excellent communication skills—and are comfortable initiating conversations with children and visitors
People who genuinely enjoy working with children and can keep them engaged, excited, and safe.
Responsible, self‑directed volunteers who arrive on time, stay focused, and bring their best every day.
Interested teens can apply using this link or find the application on the Teen Volunteer page of our website. The deadline to apply is Thursday, March 19th.

Internship Summer School:
We will once again be offering a summer internship program through MCPS for school credit. There are a few changes this year, so please read this email in full.
Course Dates: June 22nd through July 31st
Registration Deadline: Thursday, June 18th (the last day of school)
Internship Credit: 0.5 credit or 75 hours. Note: there will NOT be an opportunity for students to earn 1.0 credit for 150 hours this summer. If they need 150 hours to fulfil a program requirement, they will need to talk with their home internship coordinator about options to get the remaining 75 hours.
Assignments: Weekly reflections and hour entries in Kuder, career-centric lessons and accompanying assignments from Kuder, weekly webinars (two times offered for student convenience - Monday evenings or Tuesday mornings. These sessions are mandatory to receive school credit).
Internship Opportunities: Students should work with the IC at their home school to find a placement for the summer or use the Kuder Navigator platform. I do not have a database of opportunities for students. If they contact me and ask, I will refer them back to their home school IC.
Summer Internship Website: All questions, dates, and information can be found here. Please share with your schools.
Summer Internship Syllabus: Grading policies, dates, requirements.
Summer Internship Registration: Students may not register until they have a placement secured. Interested students should find an internship first, then register.
There will be parent/student interest meetings held via Zoom on Wednesday, March 11th, at either 4:00 PM or 7:00 PM, and again on Thursday, May 7th, at 4:00 PM or 7:00 PM. These are not mandatory to attend, but a good time for parents and students to come and get their questions answered.
