HOLY CROSS HOSPITAL
Dear high school junior,
Thank you for your interest in serving at Holy Cross Health as an intern for the 2026-2027 school year. Please read this entire email.
Several important considerations:
Following instructions is important to me and vital in the hospital.
If you are already Holy Cross family (former Summer RISE program at Holy Cross, been part of Holy Cross summer volunteering last year, or are currently volunteering with Holy Cross), you do not need to re-apply for internship. Please contact me directly to confirm internship for next school year – you have guaranteed acceptance! You don’t have to go through the process all over again!!
You must be registered for Internship with your school for at least 1 period and no more than 3 periods.
MCPS tells you internships should be 5 hours for 1 period, 10 hours for 2 periods, and 15 hours for 3 periods.
Internship is a real time commitment! To be successful, you will need more than that each week because you do not have to come on the days where there is any type of altered school day (Non-Instructional, Holiday, Professional Development, School Closure, Early Release, 2-hour delay, Lockdown), so Holy Cross suggests:
1 period = 6-8 hours per week
2 periods = 12-14 hours per week
3 periods = 16-18 hours per week
You must be a junior (a rising senior) right now so that you would be doing the internship during your senior year.
Not all schools offer an internship period for travel, so expect that internship times will extend beyond the school day. You would be asked to start before the school day starts or serve until hours after the traditional school day ends. Travel time to and from the internship is not included in internship hours. Morning interns typically start at 6am and afternoon interns typically end between 4pm-6pm.
You are responsible for all transportation to and from your internship site. Plan ahead of time home long it would take you to get here & get home using various methods of transportation before considering applying! Ride Share is expensive multiple times a week, so don’t consider that as an option!!
I don’t do “helicopter parents” so if you have questions, please email or call me. If your question can wait, my preferred method of communication is email. My phone is 24/7 so don’t expect to call me and leave a message. I answer my phone whenever possible, even in the middle of the night. If you don’t reach me, please leave me a message and I will return your call. I want to hear from you, not your parents!!
I send important messages out by email. Be checking your email (personal, not school) for next steps after the applications close.
This is a competitive program. Hundreds will apply, 60-80 will be accepted. Please consider alternative options for internship as well.
We hope that you will complete 1 of the applications below (we don’t need duplicates). If you live somewhere mid-county, please complete the 1 application for the hospital closest to you or that would be easiest to travel to for internship.
Holy Cross Hospital (Silver Spring) https://www.volgistics.com/appform/1777864931
Holy Cross Germantown Hospital (Germantown) https://www.volgistics.com/appform/981565284
These applications will lock at 12pm on Tuesday March 31, 2026. All applications must be completed by that time. If your application is in progress at 12pm on the 31st, you will not be able to successfully submit it. Plan ahead, apply early, and put reminders in your phone to check your email daily thereafter.
I look forward to reviewing your application,
