There are two college entrance exams, the ACT (American College Test) and the SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test), which are used for admission, placement, and scholarships. Most colleges accept scores from either the ACT or SAT. Check directly with each institution being considered for admission policies. Registration materials are available in the College/Career Information Center and online.
Test-Optional Schools - Many schools were test-optional prior to Covid and will remain test-optional. Please visit FairTest for a list of test-optional colleges and Universities
National Merit Scholarship Program - Students who meet published entry and participation requirements enter the National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT?NMSQT) as Juniors. Of the 1.5 million entrants, some 50,000 with the highest PSAT/NMSQT Selection Index scores qualify for recognition in the National Merit Scholarship Program. Click here for more information
While many colleges and Universities remain test-optional we still recommend for students to take the SAT/ACT if they are able. You can sign up at SAT Registration or ACT Registration
B-CC administers one free SAT during the SAT school day to ALL juniors in the spring.
