Community Coalition Goals:
To engage the broader community in a discussion related to the part that business, industry, and our community play in a redesigned setting, as well as what we can do as part of a collective effort to better prepare students in USD 418 for success beyond graduation.
Community Conversation
January 10, 2018, the Community Coalition hosted our first “Community Conversation” related to school redesign. During the event, Mr. Mohn discussed the Kansans Can Vision and provided an overview of the Mercury Seven Redesign Initiative.
February 14, 2018, the Community Coalition hosted the second “Community Conversation” related to school redesign at Prairieland Partners. During the meeting, community members discussed the Insulated Education Pipeline, where they saw themselves (and their representative organization) fitting into the pipeline, what things our community is already doing, brainstormed some “dream big” ideas for what a community could do to better prepare students, and finally, what gaps exist across our community that need deeper discussion for improvement.
March 28, 2018, the Community Coalition hosted the third "Community Conversation" related to school redesign. During the meeting, Brandon Simmelink (McPherson Middle School Principal) and Chris Allen (Eisenhower Elementary School Principal) gave updates regarding the strategies their redesign teams are starting to utilize and attendees were able to ask questions.

Community Coalition Evening Event
April 25, 2018 @ 6:30pm
Our first step toward connecting our students with the community is building knowledge and empathy with the McPherson community and the world. A redesign initiative that we are piloting during the spring semester is having every student watch CNN 10 during our Packademics time on the first and last days of the week. CNN 10 is a ten minute news reel designed for students to share national and international current events.
