FINANCIAL LITERACY

Middleton High School requires a 0.5 credit of Financial Literacy for graduation.  Below are the options to meet this requirement.

FIN1015: PERSONAL FINANCE (FINANCIAL LITERACY CREDIT)

Grade(s): 10,11,12 Prerequisite: None

Semester Course Credit: 0.5 Financial Literacy

Students in Personal Finance will develop an understanding of financial skills and strategies. Students will increase their knowledge in the areas of economic influences, personal decisions, banking, financial services, saving, investing strategies, taxes, credit, budgeting, housing options, car purchases, loan choices, and economic influences. Throughout the course students will be presented with problem solving situations and project-based learning activities.

Note: Students interested in earning Career & Tech Ed credit instead of Financial Literacy credit should instead register for BUS1015.

BUS1085: PERSONAL FINANCE (CAPP) (FINANCIAL LITERACY CREDIT)

Grade(s): 10,11,12 Prerequisite: None
Semester Course Credit: 0.5 Financial Literacy

Students in Personal Finance (CAPP) will develop an understanding of financial skills and strategies. Students will increase their knowledge in the areas of economic influences, personal decisions, banking, financial services, saving, investing strategies, taxes, credit, budgeting, housing options, car purchases, loan choices, and economic influences. Throughout the course students will be presented with problem solving situations and project-based learning activities. While covering the same content as Personal Finance, the Personal Finance for CAPP course will be taught at the college level by a CAPP approved instructor.

Note: Qualified students may receive college credit for UW Oshkosh Business 231: Personal Finance. All dual credit options are dependent upon teacher certification.

FIN4585: ECONOMICS (CAPP) (FINANCIAL LITERACY CREDIT)

Grade(s): 10,11,12 Prerequisite: Land People and Power

Credit: 0.5 Financial Literacy Semester Course

Students in CAPP Economics will investigate how scarcity impacts decision-making in a world of limited resources and unlimited wants. This course introduces students to fundamental concepts of both micro and macroeconomics. Students will discuss how the choices made by individuals and governments have local, national, and global economic effects. Students will leave this course with the tools to think like an economist and apply their knowledge to current economic situations. 

Note: Qualified students may receive college credit for UW Oshkosh Economics 101: General Economics. All dual credit options are dependent upon teacher certification.

Note: Students interested in earning Social Studies credit instead of Financial Literacy credit should instead register for SST4585.

FIN8015: CONSUMER FINANCIAL LITERACY (FINANCIAL LITERACY CREDIT)

Credit: 0.5 Financial Literacy Semester Course

Students in Consumer Financial Literacy will develop personal financial skills and understand their consumer rights and responsibilities through discussion and real world applications. Students learn important financial skills such as money management, decision making, budgeting, career exploration, buying a car, renting an apartment, insurance, taxes, credit, and the role of the consumer in society.
