Conferences Ortho Surgery Residency McLaren Greater Lansing

Orientation for First Year

This program is provided to first year residents in July and will be coordinated between MSUCOM/SCS and MGL dependent on scheduling circumstances.

Teaching Rounds

Rounds occurs Monday -- Friday from 5:30 am -- 6:30 am. Residents are split into two groups. Teaching rounds takes place at McLaren Orthopedic Hospital and Sparrow Hospital.

Didactics (Morning Report)

Didactics/Morning Report is scheduled from 6:30 am -- 8:00 am Monday -- Friday in the Orthopedic Residents Conference Room. Morning Report is under the direction of the chief resident.

Weekly Didactics

Noon Conferences are held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:00 noon -- 1:00 pm. PGY I residents are required to attend noon conferences during non-orthopedic rotations. PGY II - V residents are encouraged to attend if their schedule permits.

Fracture Conference -- McLaren Orthopedic Hospital

Fracture Conference is held each Monday from 7:00 am -- 8:00 am in the Orthopedic Residents Conference Room. With the exception of the first Monday of every month, Fracture Conference is held at Sparrow Hospital from 6:45 am -- 8:00 am in the 6-West Conference Room. Fracture cases from the past week and weekend are presented.

Fracture Conference is held the first Monday of every month at Sparrow Hospital from 6:45 am -- 8:00 am in the 6-West Conference Room. Fracture cases from the past week and weekend are presented.

OITE Review

Thursdays from 4:00 pm -- 6:00 pm are reserved for review of the core literature in preparation for the Orthopedic In-Training Exam (OITE), which is scheduled annually, in November.

Grand Rounds

Grand Rounds is typically held monthly from 7:00 am -- 9:00 am in the Orthopedic Residents Conference Room. A series of grand rounds will bring nationally renowned orthopedic surgeons to lecture to our residents and staff.

Journal Club

Journal Club is held the second Tuesday of every month at 6:30 pm at McLaren Orthopedic Hospital in the Orthopedic Residents Conference Room.

Core Curriculum Lectures

GME core curriculum lectures are held on a quarterly basis. Core curriculum lectures are designed to educate residents in the AOA core competencies.

Orthopedic Morbidity and Mortality Conference

Orthopedic Morbidity and Mortality Conferences are held the third Monday at 7:00 am during the months of February, April, June, August, October, and December. Meetings are held in the Orthopedic Residents Conference Room.

ATLS Certification (Advanced Trauma Life Support)

PGY 2 residents are required to take the ATLS course at MSUCOM.

AO Basic Principles of Fracture Management Course

PGY 2 residents are required to attend the AO Basic Principles of Fracture Management Course prior to the start of the third year of the residency program.

AOAO Annual Post Graduate Seminar

PGY 4 residents are required to attend the AOAO Annual Post Graduate Seminar prior to the start of the fifth year of the residency program.
