OB Curriculum & Rotations
Curriculum
First Year
The first year non-ob/gyn rotations will be completed in the first six months. This allows for the resident to focus on required rotations and provides better continuity in initial training on the obstetrical service.
Obstetrics / Gynecology: 6 months. Primary focus is obstetrics with direct supervision by faculty and senior residents.
Internal Medicine: 3 months which includes one month sub-specialty of cardiology, critical care or pulmonology.
Pediatrics / Neonatology: 1 month rotation divided between MGL hospitalist service (with emphasis on newborn evaluation and resuscitation) and Sparrow Hospital Neonatology service.
General Surgery: 1 month
Family Medicine 1 month
Ob / Gyn Ultrasound: Continuity experience with
- half-day hands-on ambulatory ultrasound clinic per week (in clinic or private ob-gyn office)
- A formal three day ultrasound course with didactic and hands on training in ob and gyn ultrasound
- On going experience with bedside ultrasound in Labor and Delivery
- This provides a greater than one month equivalent.
Ambulatory Ob/Gyn: Continuity experience in weekly residency clinic is provided. This provides a greater than one month equivalent. This takes place in the multi-specialty resident clinic.
Second Year
Obstetrics: 3 months
Gynecology: 6 months
Ambulatory Ob/Gyn: Continuity experience in weekly residency clinic is provided. Greater than one month equivalent
Maternal Fetal Medicine/Ultrasound: 1 month
Third Year
Obstetrics: 3 months
Gynecology: 6 months
Family Planning: 1 month
Gynecologic Oncology: 1 month
Maternal Fetal Medicine: 1 month
Ambulatory Ob/Gyn: Continuity experience in weekly residency clinic is provided. Greater than one month equivalent
Fourth Year
Obstetrics: 3 months
Gynecology: 8 months.
Female pelvic medicine & reconstructive surgery: 1 month
Ambulatory Gynecology (private office) 1 month
Ambulatory Ob / Gyn: Continuity experience in weekly residency clinic is provided. Greater than one month equivalent.
Simulation
Throughout training, residents participate in simulation training to meet board certification requirements for FLS training. This includes structure curriculum and training on the di Vinci robotic trainer system, as well as other hands-on opportunities.
