Training

The primary responsibility of the McLaren Greater Lansing Anesthesiology Residency Program is to educate and train anesthesiologists. Our goal in this endeavor is to balance education and service. A number of training opportunities are available for residents in the Anesthesiology program. Some of these opportunities include:

Scholarly Activities

Residents in the Anesthesiology Residency Program at McLaren Greater Lansing regularly engage in scholarly activities. For example, residents will:

  • Conduct a research project
    • A difficult case presentation
    • Extensive review of an article
    • Engage in a research study
    • Assist in writing a book chapter
  • Participate in a quality improvement/safety project

Residents have the opportunity to participate and present their research at local and regional conferences, such as:

  • Mid-Michigan Regional Research Day
  • Michigan Society of Anesthesiologists Scientific Session
  • Midwest Anesthesia Resident's Conference (MARC)

Numerous resources are available to support residents throughout the research process:

  • McLaren Greater Lansing has a state-of-the-art library service to assist with information technology and a comprehensive literature search
  • Access to Michigan State University's medical library
  • Faculty support for each step in the research process including research design, literature review, IRB, and statistical and data analysis
  • Residents involved in the research process will become certified and receive education on research ethics through the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) program
