Semester I Practical Nursing

Important Information for Semester I Practical Nursing Students: Please read carefully.

Semester I (sometimes referred to as "Level One") Practical Nursing is composed of the following courses:

NRSPN 301   Fundamentals of Nursing

NRSPN 302   Nursing Skills

NRSPN 303   Nursing Pharmacology

NRSPN 304   Introduction to Clinical Practice 

NRSPN 301, NRSPN 302 and NRSPN 303 are offered at the Milwaukee (downtown) Campus.  NRSPN 304 is at a clinical site.  ⬇️ Scroll down for a list of clinical sites ⬇️

Direct communication by students with clinical/field placement facilities to inquire regarding clinical/field placement is not allowed.

All students, please be aware of the following:

Once final grades are posted for the current semester, MATC reserves the right to move any student from one section to another based on section enrollment.

No special requests for clinical sites or campus location will be accepted.

The deadline to change your clinical site is Monday, December 14, 2026 at 5:00 PM.  Any modifications made after this cutoff will disrupt the clinical clearance process. As a result, the nursing program will NOT be able to secure a clinical site for your spring semester.

There will be space available in all courses for students in good standing to continue in the program but you must register by the deadline. Castle Branch records must be in compliance. 

All records contained in Castle Branch (DISA) must remain current throughout the semester. Therefore, take the time prior to the start of the semester to plan for/update any requirements due to expire.  It is the student's responsibility to ensure that CastleBranch requirements remain current and submitted by stated deadlines. 

When a student enrolled in a clinical course does not fulfill CastleBranch requirements that fall due during the semester, the student will be notified one time as a courtesy.  The clinical instructor will be included in the email.  For every day of nonfulfillment, the student will not be permitted at the clinical site, counting as an absence.  The student will receive a “7” for SLO1 on their clinical evaluation tool (note: Two “7’s” result in course failure - see clinical attendance policy).  

All nursing courses utilize Blackboard. Please check your Blackboard course regularly for updates and announcements, including information about Clinical Orientation.
