7th Grade Chorus is designed to provide students with the experience of performance through singing, as well as the education and proper use of voice. Students are introduced to the fundamentals of choral singing through a curriculum of tonal and rhythmic solfege as well as some movement and reinforcement activities. The majority of the music sung will be in unison with some easy two-part music introduced later. Student assessment will be done every trimester. Performances are a natural and expected part of this ensemble experience. During the year students will be involved in a wide variety of activities which will evaluate their progress. This is the first step in our choral music journey.
8th Grade Chorus is a non-auditioned ensemble made up of all ranges of voices. Building on the foundations laid in seventh-grade chorus, we’ll explore both solfege and choral music in multiple genres. Our focus will be on training voices in an ensemble setting, with repertoire featuring two part choral literature. We will develop the musical skills of pitch matching, vocal technique, musical literacy, rehearsal techniques, and stage etiquette. We will rehearse throughout the school year, culminating in performances at selected assemblies and concerts that showcase our work. Participation is key, and attendance at performances is essential to share our music with the community.
8th Grade Select Chorus is an auditioned ensemble made up of all ranges of voices. Building on the foundations laid in seventh-grade chorus, we’ll explore both solfege and choral music in multiple genres and languages. Our focus will be on training voices in an ensemble setting, with repertoire featuring three part choral literature. A large focus of this class is preparation for the rigorous nature of the choral program at the high school level - special attention will be paid to the development of the musical skills of pitch matching, vocal technique, musical literacy, rehearsal techniques, and stage etiquette. We will rehearse throughout the school year, culminating in performances at selected assemblies and concerts that showcase our work. Participation is key, and attendance at performances is essential to share our music with the community. Audition in February of the year prior.
