KS4

Year 10 & 11 - GCSE Dance - RSL Level 2 CAPA

We are fortunate enough to be able to offer both GCSE Dance and RSL Level 2 Creative and Performing Arts to our Year 10 and 11's:

AQA is the exam board that we follow for GCSE Dance.

There is a coursework component that makes up 60% of the overall grade and an exam, which comprises the remaining 40%. For more information on AQA, please click here.

RSL Level 2 Creative and Performing Arts is made up of 4 optional units and 1 compulsory external unit. The internal units studied will be at the discretion of the teacher to ensure that each cohort can successfully access each module. For more information on RSL Level 2, please click here.

Year 10

Year 10 RSL:

In Year 10, students will complete 1 internal unit based which will either be Technique, Ensemble or Choreography. Students will work alongside their teacher and peers to complete all practical and coursework elements over the academic year and this unit will be internally marked by the student's class teacher and then sampled by an external moderator.

Year 10 GCSE:

Over the course of the academic year, GCSE students will critically analyse all 6 professional works and develop a knowledge and understanding of the physical, technical, expressive and mental skills required for the theory exam.

Year 11

Year 11 RSL:

Over the course of the year, students will complete a mock external unit prior to the exam paper being released by the board. They will then complete their external exam under controlled conditions in a set timeframe given by the exam board. Both practical and theory elements have to be completed under controlled conditions.

Year 11 GCSE:

In Year 11 GCSE Dance, students will learn and perform 2 set phrases and a performance piece taught by the class teacher which will make up 30% of their practical grade. Students will also create their own choreography based on questions given by AQA. This element makes up the final 30% of their practical grade. In the summer months, the students will sit an hour and a half written exam, where they will be questioned on their knowledge of the key skills, choreographic process, own performance, and 4 of the 6 professional works.
