Frozen!

Mascalls Academy's School Musical 2023

We are super excited to announce that this year's school musical is Frozen! Our cast are working exceptionally hard, preparing for our up-coming performances. Student's are attending multiple rehearsals each week on the run-up to the shows. We are so excited for parent's and guardian's to come along and see our talented cast!

'Falling into Alice's Wonderland'

Congratulations to all the Drama Club students who were involved in the production, 'Falling Into Alice's Wonderland'. The students created a wonderful evening performance of Alice in Wonderland where many staff, students, parents and grandparents attended to see them perform.  In addition to this, we welcomed students from Paddock Wood Primary to come and see a Matinee performance of the show and the cheers from the audience was deafening!  Not all students that attend Drama Club are on the stage and huge congratulations to all those who create and manage the set design and the team who manage the technical aspects of the performance.  Another fantastic way to celebrate the diverse talents that our Mascalls students have!

Graffiti Wall - Tunbridge Wells

16 year 9 students got to work with professional graffiti artists Humor & EKS on a legal graffiti wall in Grosvenor park in Tunbridge Wells.

Students also had the opportunity to undertake a graffiti trail around the park, taking photos and discussing with representatives from the Amelia Scott gallery their views on graffiti and its sometimes controversial place in the visual arts. As a former philosophy and ethics teacher, Karina, the Amelia education officer was particularly impressed with the quality of our students' ethical and political understanding of graffiti as an artform and commended them on their eloquence, reasoning and thoughtfulness.

Karina said she had been really inspired by them, as were Miss Baston & I (in addition to being amazed that not a single student complained about the rain and wind!!)

Spring Showcase 2023

Our Spring Showcase was held on the 22nd March. An evening of performances celebrating the work of our students across the Performing Arts. The students created, learnt and devised the pieces that were performed as part of the final submissions for their GCSE and A-level exams. As a team, we are extremely proud of what the students have produced.

For some of them, this was their last performance at Mascalls before they move on to either college or university.

We wish them good luck and all the best in their next steps.

Year 7 Drama

In Module 4, Year 7 worked extremely hard learning about Greek Theatre in Drama. After creating a performance, they added to this by designing and making Greek masks to accompany their performances. The Drama department are so pleased with their efforts and are so proud of their enthusiasm in the creative process!

Travel Diaries - New York!

Many thanks and congratulations to our outstanding 6th formers who are fresh back from an Art trip to New York city before the Easter break! Right from the outset it was clear that our students would maximise the experience.  Based in the hustle and bustle of Times square, it didn't take long for our students to step up to the pace of a native New Yorker, capturing stunning photography at every opportunity. The students were happy to pound the sidewalk in awe and without complaint , energy fueled by the generous portions of the great New York cuisine.

Highlights of the trip extended beyond the superb exhibitions enjoyed in the Guggenheim and MoMA. Students enjoyed the atmosphere, the famous architecture, the 360s night time views enjoyed from the top of the Empire State. At the poignant 9/11 memorial. our students made us proud with their heartfelt empathy and deep respect. The fact the students were multidisciplinary meant that alongside our artists and photographers, we had media specialists, as well as our very own A level historian who could enlighten us on the history of Rockefeller! We found our sea legs on the short trip to Staten Island, the whole city laid out for the students to take in, including Liberty herself.  Thanks New York, for a warm and friendly reception at every turn!

MOVE IT! 2023

Zara, Kayla & Holly

We are extremely lucky at Mascalls to spend every day surrounded by unbelievably talented young people. The dancers, Zara, Kayla and Holly absolutely SMASHED their performance at MOVE IT! 2023 in March.

The girls stood onstage, after only a weeks worth of lunchtime rehearsals and performed their choreography, alongside some of the biggest dance colleges and schools in the country. We are so proud of them!

We are extremely grateful for their commitment to the dance department and to us as teachers. Thank you to them and to their parents for their continued dedication and support.
