Student teaching is the final component of your teacher preparation journey at Mary Baldwin University. This webpage outlines the essential requirements and procedures to ensure a successful placement experience. Please review each section carefully and complete all steps by the stated deadlines.Β Your advisor and the School of Education are here to support you throughout this process.
Before submitting your student teaching application, you must meet with your academic advisor to confirm:
You will complete all Level 1 and Level 2 requirements before student teaching.
All required modules are completed and submitted before the application deadline; see your checklist or the MyMBU School of Education page for a list of modules
Plan to complete 1st attempt of the Praxis tests by October 1, 2026 (Spring 2027 student teachers).
Spring 2027 Student Teachers - Praxis tests must be attempted for the first time by October 1, 2026
Fall 2027 Student Teachers and Beyond - Praxis testing must be attempted before enrolling in a Level 2 course
Praxis tests must be attempted by the deadlines listed; send Praxis testing results to MBU. Missing the deadline will delay student teaching by a semester.
Praxis test fees are the student's responsibility.Β
All required tests must be successfully passed by the end of student teaching. If you need to retest, it is recommended that you do so before the busy time of student teaching.Β
Praxis testing is required by the state of Virginia to become a teacher. Visit the Praxis site to determine the correct tests for your teaching endorsement. Some endorsements require more than one test.Β
Getting Your Praxis Scores -The date you receive your score depends on which test you take. Check the Praxis score reporting calendar
