Student Teaching Application

📌 PLEASE READ FIRST: Student Teaching Eligibility & Requirements

Student teaching is the final component of your teacher preparation journey at Mary Baldwin University. This application outlines the essential requirements and procedures to ensure a successful placement experience. Please review each section carefully and complete all steps by the stated deadlines. Your advisor and the School of Education are here to support you throughout this process.

📌 Eligibility to Begin Student Teaching

✅Meeting with Your Advisor is REQUIRED - Before submitting your student teaching application, you will need to meet with your academic advisor to confirm your readiness and make sure all requirements are on track.

✅To be eligible for student teaching, you must have completed Level 2 of the Teacher Education Program (TEP). Refer to the TEP Progression Chart for more details.

✅ You must also complete ALL required coursework, modules, and attempt ALL required testing with the scores returned by the deadlines listed below. See your endorsement checklist and advisor for details.

📅 Licensure Requirements Deadlines
All VDOE licensure requirements must be completed before student teaching begins:

Fall Semester: Due by July 15

Spring Semester: Due by November 15

Required Testing

1. Praxis testing is required by the state of Virginia to become a teacher. Visit the Praxis site to determine the correct tests for your teaching endorsement.

2. Getting Your Praxis Scores -The date you receive your score depends on which test you take. Check the Praxis score reporting calendar to get your scores on time! Teaching Reading #5205 Test (for Elementary and Special Education Endorsements) can take up to a month to get back.

3. When taking your test, send Praxis testing results to MBU
