face-shield production line

Preparing Materials

We are using black polypropylene from the back of DT folders to make the headband of our face shields. The first job is to take the polypropylene plastic off and prep it for manufacture.

Laser Cut the Polypropolene

We are the cutting the polypropylene on the laser cutter. This takes around 6 minutes to make 12 headbands.

Laminate the Laminate Sheet

We then put an A3 sheet of laminate through the lamination machine which binds the plastic together and makes the shield transparent.

Shaping the Visor

We then take the finished laminate sheets, clamp them under our template and cut the sheets using a craft knife.

Hole Punching

We then take the curved laminate sheet and hole punch four holes. These holes will allow for the attachment to the polypropylene headband.

Assembly

We then slot the the headbands and laminate together to form the face shield. Afterwards we secure both sides together using two elastic bands and a knot.

Packaging

We then take the completed face shields and pack them in reused plastic wallets. We pack these in bundles of 10 and place them in a reused cardboard box.
