Central idea: Technology constantly evolves to progress human societies.
Year 5 have started their second line of inquiry, focusing on the use of technology around the world. We are looking at digital art and advertisements. Children have pulled on their previous knowledge of printing techniques to experiment with, ready to create their own digital advert for a technology brand. As well as this, they have explored the different methods of advertising around the world.
In writing, we have been planning and writing our own travel brochures, based around islands the children have created. This has been inspired by our year group book 'The Wild Robot'. They have been constructing sentences with prepositions to persuade the readers of their travel brochures to visit their island. Year 5 have enjoyed immersing themselves in their own island to create their writing.
In maths, we have been completing a range of lessons on multiplication which have led to us looking at the area of compound shapes. We have been using manipulatives to support this learning and make it more pictorial for the children.
