Central idea: The Earth's physical processes may influence people's lives.
Volcanoes, volcanoes, volcanoes! We are all definitely very excited about finally making our model volcanoes after our research, planning and designing. The paper mache technique demands a great deal of skill, and children have really taken on board their learning from year 2 to help them. We are looking forward to painting our models and even more so for the final explosions next week.
In maths, children have been getting to grips with dividing two digit numbers by a one digit number using base ten, flexible partitioning and mental methods. It has proved extremely tricky, especially as it demands so many steps as well as knowledge of our times tables. Next week, we will begin to use measures of length (mm, cm & m), please use any opportunity at home to measure and look at the comparative size of measures.
In gymnastics, children have really been developing their core strength in learning to control and show tension in their muscles to hold their poses. It has been a super unit of work allowing children the chance to improve week by week. Do ask them to show you their pike, straddle, japana, dish, arch and front support! You'll be amazed.
Reminder - We have our trip on Tuesday to the National History Museum. Children are required to wear their school uniform, but can wear trainers for comfort. All children will require a packed lunch, water for the day, a waterproof coat and are to arrive at school at the normal time. The children will be back at school at 4:15pm to be collected from the KS1 playground.
