Central idea: Natural disasters impact living things and their environments
We are continuing to think about natural disasters and emergencies, looking more closely at flood plains and how they work. We even created our own houses and a flood plain model to test the impact on various different amounts of rainfall.
We used our excellent knowledge of nouns, adjectives and verbs to write poems representing water where we created a background using colour wash and wax crayons.
As part of our focus on natural disasters and water this week we spent some time researching our artist Katsushika Hokusai who was famous for this Great Wave off Kanagawa created by using woodblook print.
In maths we have been focusing on the strategy of addition and subtraction with and without exchanging.
In writing, the children have been exploring newspapers by deconstructing all the parts before starting to think about how to create their own article about floods.
