Central idea: Our likes and dislikes make us who we are.
The Early Years team are incredibly proud of how well the children have settled in. We are very excited for the year ahead!
So far this module, we have been using the text 'The Lion and the Bird' by Marianne Dubec to drive our learning about who we are. The lion enjoys gardening, caring for animals, playing, photography, cooking, and reading. The children went on to share their own likes with each other, many of which matched up with those of the lion. Together, we have engaged in various activities, from planting tomatoes, cress and herbs, bird watching with binoculars, writing letters to the lion, making clay birds as gifts for the lion to making lion's dens and birds nests. The children are now planning and organising a tea party for the lion and the bird, where they will prepare and cook using the lion's favorite food, tomatoes, as the key ingredient. Moving forward, our focus is to begin to think about how our individual likes make us unique.
Henry: "The lion grows tomatoes so he loves them. We could make tomato soup."
James: "The birds need food too, some seeds."
Peyton: "The Lion is so lovely. We are going to be best friends when he gets my letter."
