Central idea: Evidence of past civilisations can be used to make connections to present day societies.
The children have worked so hard this week on our third line of inquiry to really make connections and consider changes from past to present. They have written and presented a non-chronological report all about ancient civilisations as well as comparing homes through prehistory. We enjoyed a wonderful enrichment day with outdoor learning to help us experience how hunter-gatherers would have foraged for food as well as mark-making using natural dyes. We also finished our final piece of art inspired by Joan Miro as well as creating a model of Skara Brae (a Neolithic village).
In maths, we have been learning how to read unmarked intervals on a scale in both grams and kilograms. Please continue to involve your child in practical opportunities to weigh ingredients and measure volume. You may wish to have conversations about the old 'imperial' measures (pounds & ounces) and their relative size when compared to metric measures. It is so helpful for children to have a good understanding of how heavy a kilo feels or the capacity of a litre. Do take time over Easter to check out weights and measures in your kitchen cupboards!
