Central idea: Shelters, for humans and animals, is a basic need.
In Art, we finished our mobiles. Like Zaha Hadid, we looked closely at the lines and form that could be created using paper only. The children were extremely interested to see that we could create such interesting lines with such a well used resource.
Teddy: I like the curls that I have made with the paper. It reminds me of my brother's hair.
Freddie: I have made the lines look like Zaha Hadid's building.
We shared with the children that not all shelters are as strong as Zaha Hadid's structures. In some parts of the world, particularly those affected by climate change, shelters can be susceptible to damage because of changes in weather.
This is an issue facing the people of Honduras.
World Villages for Children
We have learnt that Marden has high-quality shelters made from strong materials which help to keep us safe and healthy. The children now know that this is not the case for all places in the world. Very far away in Honduras, some people live in homes made from clay which may not keep them safe or healthy. The children found out that the charity 'World Villages for Children' provides care for the children of Honduras such as:
A bed in a safe, dry building
Quality education so the children can go on to find good jobs
The importance of these for the children in Honduras is crucial so that change can be made in these countries, providing the next generation with safe shelters and life skills to better their future is vital.
EYFS PYP Action:
As a result of our visit from World Villages for Children, Team Oak and Team Juniper have decided that they would like to raise money for children like Ana in Honduras. Their donations will give Ana, and children like her, to go to school to learn vital skills to help build and sustain a safe shelter in the future.
We will hold an event to help with this.
Wednesday 23rd April
Non school uniform for a small donation.
Coffee Afternoon from 2:30 - 3:00pm
