Central idea: People communicate to share their knowledge and experiences.
Following reading The Colour Monster text, we discussed what makes us feel happy.
Santanna: Being with my friends.
Orla: I love my friends. They make me feel happy and I like laughing with them when we play.
Ronnie: The sunshine makes me feel happy.
Madison: Playing with my friends makes me really really happy.
Amy-Ellen: Eating ice cream with my friends in the park.
Chloe: My mummy always makes me feel happy.
As well as learning the makaton sign for 'happy' we also drew everything that makes us feel happy. We then worked together to make some of our own playdough and used it to create models of happy faces and the things which make us feel the happiest!
Sidney: Being with my mummy makes me happy. I love my family.
Ora: I am happy when I am building lego and playing with trucks.
Rory: Being with my friends makes me happy.
Deanna: I made special playdough. That made me happy!
Rowan: Being warm makes me feel happy. That is why I like the sun.
Otis: A big cuddle from Mummy makes me feel happy.
Luna: My family makes me happy. Playing with my brother makes me happy.
Alex: Listening to music makes me feel happy. Me and Daddy have a favourite song and it makes us happy when we listen to it.
We decided to engage in some music appreciation and took time to listen to some favourites. We discussed how our facial expressions changed when listening to music. Many sang along.
Next, we look forward to exploring different musical genres and discussing how this makes us feel.
