Gerry #5 VFA Scholarships
The Gerry #5 Veteran Firemen’s Association, Inc. offers several scholarships for students who are pursuing higher education. Several are available exclusively to members’ sons and daughters and some are awarded to any member of the graduating class of Marblehead High School. Not all of the scholarships are limited to Marblehead graduates; a few are available to seniors attending any high school. Please read the specific requirements of each scholarship to assure that the applicant qualifies. Each application must be submitted in a separate envelope with the name of the specific scholarship written on the top of the MHS general application form and on the outside of the envelope. If applying for more than one scholarship, please complete an application for each. Successful applicants will be announced during senior award night or will be notified shortly thereafter.
REMINDER: The Gerry #5 VFA, donor of the scholarships, has definite ideas about how the applications must be submitted. Please check to make sure you have complied with the stipulations.
The name of the scholarship must appear on the outside of the envelope.

In memory of one of the Gerry's founding fathers, this award is open to any senior with a parent/guardian or grandparent who is a member of the Gerry and who plans to continue his or her education at an accredited college or university. Recipient will be selected by the Gerry #5 Scholarship Committee.

This award will be made to a son or daughter of a Gerry #5 member and a graduate of Marblehead High School who has been accepted to an accredited college or university. This is an athletic scholarship that will be awarded to a student who participated in sports in his/her high school career. Recipient will be selected by the Gerry #5 Scholarship Committee.

This award is given in memory of Edgar “Pete” Snow Doliber, the first recognized foreman of the Gerry #5 and the first Marbleheader to die in combat in Vietnam in May 1966. This scholarship is available to Gerry #5 VFA members or their children or stepchildren, with a preference given to veterans or dependents of veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces. Recipient will be selected by the Gerry #5 Scholarship Committee.

This scholarship honors the memory of Jody E. LaLonde, class of 1969. This award is presented on a needs basis to a Marblehead High School senior and Marblehead resident who best exemplifies the character and interests of Jody LaLonde. The recipient will be chosen based on plans to pursue an education in the medical or related field or in the trades, while acknowledging academic achievements, citizenship and community service. Recipient will be selected by the Gerry #5 Scholarship Committee.

This award is presented on a financial need-basis to a Marblehead high school senior who best exemplifies the character and interest of Bob Ross, with special emphasis on activities that reflect his willingness to always help others. Two scholarship awards will be made this year. Recipients will be selected by the Gerry #5 Scholarship Committee.
