Marblehead Softball Little League (MSLL) will offer two scholarships of $500 each to graduating seniors planning to further their education at an institute of higher learning. Marblehead Youth Basketball Association Scholarship

This scholarship is available to any Marblehead High School graduating senior pursuing higher education who has participated in the MYBA. In addition to participation in the MYBA, consideration may be given to academic achievement, involvement in school and/or community activities, good citizenship, and other compelling circumstances. Up to four recipients will be chosen by the MYBA Scholarship Fund Committee to receive a $1,000 per year scholarship, for up to four years of continued higher education. Requirements for renewing the scholarship will be discussed with the recipients.

Michael Robert Interess Memorial Scholarship 

This scholarship, granted in memory of Michael R. Interess, member of the Class of 1966, will be awarded annually to a graduating senior intending to pursue higher education. Recipients must be an average student or better, active in extracurricular activities, a member of the golf team or basketball team for two years or more, and in need of financial assistance. Recipients will be chosen by the Michael Robert Interess Scholarship Committee.

Michael Joseph Patrick Joyce Scholarship 

This scholarship will be awarded in the memory of Michael Joyce who  passed away on September 7, 2017 at the age of 54. MJ worked at MHS and loved the time he spent with the teachers, coaches and students. He was the husband of Tracy Joyce and father of Michael, McKenzie and Montana Joyce. They were his pride and joy, and are his legacy. 

The scholarship will be awarded to a student with the following attributes: 

Requirement: You must craft an essay that explains an example of an experience in your life that was the catalyst for you demonstrating empathy towards another person. 

Please note: Effort in presenting yourself to the committee will be weighted heavily. Submit materials, awards, commendations, etc. that you feel will highlight why you are deserving of this scholarship, and evidence the fact that you meet the scholarship criteria. 

Since its inception during the 2017-2018 MHS Graduation Ceremony, many deserving MHS student-athletes and ALL Senior Varsity Softball Players, have received awards from the Michael Joseph Patrick Joyce Scholarship. This would not have been possible without the generosity of family, friends, and community members. The Joyce family appreciates all of the continued support in order to maintain this scholarship, and Michael J's memory, year after year. 

In 2023, after losing his own dog Rudy, MJ’s son, Little Michael, started a Doggie Day care called Rudy’s Ranch, in support of his Dad’s scholarship. 30% of each and every visit are donated to this fund.

Stephen "Grids" Gridley Scholarship Fund

Stephen, best known to his family and friends as "Grids", was generous, noble, and resilient. Although he was wheelchair bound, he never complained. He was selflessly there for others, and he had a genuine sense of humor. He was an inspiration to those who knew him. A true passion of his was coaching. He was an MHS assistant basketball coach (2001-2007 & 2013-2020) and assistant baseball coach (2017-2020). To the players he was known as Coach Grids. He was committed to helping the players both on and off of the field. Grids was dedicated and loyal to his family, friends, teammates, and the student-athletes that he coached. This scholarship fund has been set up in his memory.

Scholarship criteria:
The quote by Albert Pine, “What we do for ourselves dies with us. What we do for others and the world is immortal” represents what Grids embodied. In a 500 word or less essay, please explain what this quote means to you. Additionally, describe a situation in your life when you have shown resilience


This scholarship will be awarded to a member of the MHS boys basketball team and a member of the MHS baseball team.

The Rachel McKay Student Athlete Memorial Scholarship Fund


Rachel McKay was a dual sport student athlete and played ice hockey and golf while in college and was able to attain that goal by playing sports, all three seasons, while at Marblehead High School. While at Marblehead High school she played ice hockey, softball and golf (the only girl on the boys varsity team) and while she was there she was a captain and leader for two of those sports.  


During that time and while at college she exhibited not only the grit of a driven athlete but the mature characteristics of a leader and  balanced competitiveness with empathy and humor. Below are some of the attributes from what we call Rachel's Lessons:

We would like to give another female athlete the opportunity to play the sport she is passionate about in college. Description of Fund - provides monetary assistance to a female student athlete who will be playing Division III sports in college. (2) $2,500 scholarships to (2) female student athletes.

1. Female Student Athlete - playing D3 sports 

2.  GPA - 3.0 or above 

3. Played 2 sports in high school

Requirement: Identify one of the characteristics above that you most identify with, and help us understand why you chose that characteristic. In 500 words or less, give an example of how you displayed that characteristic on or off the field, court, or ice.

Daynor Prince Scholarship 

Through the generosity of the Stern Family, a $500 scholarship will be awarded to a MHS senior, varsity baseball player in honor of Daynor Prince. The Marblehead Dugout Club is committed to supporting and enhancing Marblehead Baseball. Daynor Prince was a sports legend in Marblehead. Prince graduated from Marblehead High School in 1964, and played baseball, football, and hockey for the Headers. He also starred at Parsons College in Iowa, and was the quarterback on the Marines football team at Quantico. He was a leader and led by example. He had immense talent and competitiveness. He served as Assistant Baseball Coach for MHS for many years where he helped every player reach his potential. The scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior who is furthering his education at a prep school or college and who played Marblehead High School Baseball for four years.

LoveStrong Volleyball Scholarship 2023.docx

LoveStrong Volleyball Scholarship 

This scholarship (funded by a Private Foundation) is dedicated to sharing the love, team atmosphere, skill, and determination of the sport of volleyball that Megan Sheehy felt so passionately about. Megan was diagnosed with a rare form of osteosarcoma in July 2013. She was determined to play again and made herself as much of the Marblehead Volleyball program as she could in spite of her battle. Megan sat alongside her coaches and cheered on her teammates whenever she could, and brought out a sense of strength and pride in all of us. The LoveStrong Volleyball Scholarship offers one annual scholarship of up to $400 to promote knowledge of and skill development in the sport of volleyball. Funds are meant for volleyball educational purposes, including club dues, camps and/or equipment. This scholarship is open to girls age 8 to 18, with preference to Marblehead residents, who best convey the spirit and joy of this sport. Visit the website for more information!

Marblehead All Sports Boosters Scholarship

The Marblehead All Sports Boosters award $1,000 scholarships to MHS student-athletes in recognition of their contributions and achievements on and off the MHS playing fields. Recipients are chosen based on the number of points they receive in the categories of: academics, sports participation, sports achievement, and community service.

To be eligible for an award, applicants:
Must have a minimum weighted GPA of 2.5 at the end of the third quarter of their senior year
Must have participated in at least two of the annual Boosters’ Scholarship drives
Applicants are NOT required to be pursuing post-secondary education to be eligible for an award

David Stern Scholarship

Through the generosity of the Stern Family, a $500 scholarship will be awarded to a MHS Senior, Varsity Baseball player in honor of Dave Stern. Dave was a fixture on the baseball fields in Marblehead. He was known for his humor, intelligence, energy, kindnesses, and his endless volunteerism to the Marblehead Community. Dave managed MYB teams at every level for almost a decade and was a MYB board member for six years. He ran the six-year old baseball clinics where he was responsible for introducing the game of baseball, which he loved, to the Marblehead’s youth. The Stern Scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior who is furthering his education at a Prep School or College and who played Marblehead High School baseball for four years.
