Advocates for Student Privacy

Teaches and promotes student data and privacy through his or her instruction and role as an educational leader.


Current & Prior Practices

  • Advocate for student privacy while using web resources. Promote understanding of FERPA & COPPA among parents, teachers and administration.

  • Implement elementary digital citizenship curriculum.

  • Annually require signing of Acceptable Use and Responsible Use Policies.

  • Work with IT department to ensure:

    • Student device & data security.

    • Responsible use and acceptable use policies are revisited annually for students and staff.



Possible Areas for Growth

  • Support classroom Digital Citizenship lessons during library lessons. Develop a district-wide library curriculum scope and sequence including Digital Citizenship and information technology literacy skills.

  • Increase understanding among staff, students, and parents about the privacy laws.

  • Work with students and staff to improve understanding of AUP/RUP policies and basic tenets of privacy.
