March 29th

Upcoming Important Dates

Language Arts with Mr. Wood

In language arts class we did a spelling unit with words that start or end with silent letters.  This was a tricky word list!  Some of the skills that were addresses in this unit were Sentence completion; Synonyms and Antonyms; Sentence Type, Inflectional Endings, Analogies.  The kids also spelled out their words using a coordinate grid and completed a wordsearch.  

Math with Mrs. Harris

This week our math unit was: Identify and describe plane geometric figures by their attributes.  The kids also started solving math problems to make a spring quilt that I will put on display on my door next week when they finish them.  We played Easter Bingo today for some fun prizes!

Our next math unit will be:  Identify and describe common solid figures by their attributes.

Social Studies with Mr. Kevin

In social studies the kids learned about some of the famous battles that took place in the American Revolution including the Battle of Bunker Hill, which was the first major battle of the war.  We also learned about the naval battle that gave rise to John Paul Jones' famous battle cry "I have not yet begun to fight!"

Next week we will finish up talking about the American Revolution with the last unit called The Birth of a Nation.  

Science with Mrs. Pineault

In science we then learned that different kinds of matter exist and they are found in three phases solid, liquid or a gas.  We went outside and did a fun investigation with three balloons that represented the three phases of matter.  Then we talked about the structure and properties of matter and how different properties are suited for different purposes.  Monday we will do a fun investigation were the kids from this unit.

Next week we will answer the question "What can these pieces make?"

March 22nd

Language Arts with Mr. Wood

In language arts class we did a mystery animal scratch and reveal activity.  This assignment started off with the kids randomly choosing an animal scratch off card.  They then revealed what animal they would be researching.  Using the internet the kids had to answer some basic questions about their animal.  Once their facts were checked they neatly wrote them on the card.  They all worked hard and did a wonderful job.

This week our math unit was: Add and subtraction simple fractions.  

Our next math unit will be:  Identify and describe plane geometric figures by their attributes.

Social Studies with Mr. Kevin

In social studies the kids learned about Paul Revere and then learned a little about the life of a soldier during the American Revolution.    

Next week we will learn about some famous battles and how our nation came to be.  

Science with Mrs. Pineault

In science we are learned about Polar Habitats.  There are two of these habitats on Earth- one at the north pole and one at the south pole.  We talked about the food chain and made a food chain wheel for the Arctic and Antarctic regions.  

Next week we will start our Physical Science Unit with a unit called "What is matter?".

March 15th

Upcoming Important Dates

Language Arts with Mr. Wood

In language arts class we did a spelling unit that focussed on one-syllable words that start with a blend and end with a short vowel plus -ck.  We did a variety of activities to help us learn the words: Sentence completion, Synonyms and Antonyms, Prefixes and Suffixes, Inflectional Endings, Analogies, ABC Order, and a Wordsearch.  

Next week we will do some research and writing with animals from different habitats.  

Math with Mrs. Harris

This week our math unit was: Show the relationship between whole numbers, fractions and decimals.  Today we played St. Patrick's Day Bingo!

Our next math unit will be: Add and subtraction simple fractions.

Social Studies with Mr. Kevin

In social studies the kids learned some famous patriots including George Washington who led the Continental army and went onto be the first President of the United States and Thomas Jefferson who wrote the Declaration of Independence that was signed on July 4th..  

Next week we will learn about Paul Revere and then learn about the life of a soldier during the American Revolution.    

Science with Mrs. Pineault

In science we are learning about our last two habitats the Tundra and Polar regions.  The kids made a model of the Tundra and placed animals on the continents that they live on.   The kids decided to make the model into a hat 😂

Next week we will be learning about the Polar regions and talking about the food chain. 

March 8th

On Tuesday we took the NHSAS Writing Assessment.  The kids all tried their best.  We will be taking the Reading & Math Assessments in May.  We finally watched the Lion King after doing the state testing to relax our brains!

Language Arts with Mr. Wood

In language arts class we read a story called "The Gingerbread Man".  The students then completed activities practicing the following skills:  Letter/sound association; Rhyming words; Synonyms; Following directions; Answering questions; Recalling information; Critical Thinking; Sequencing; Developing vocabulary; Writing complete sentences; Organizing information.  

Next week we will do a spelling unit with -ck ending words.

Math with Mrs. Harris

This week our math unit was: Identify and compare parts of a whole object, and write equivalent fractions.

Our next math unit will be: Show the relationship between whole numbers, fractions and decimals.

Social Studies with Mr. Kevin

In social studies the kids read about the Boston Massacre and made a pop-up book depicting the event.  They also read about the Boston Tea Party and then create the scene at Boston Harbor.  

Next week we will learn about some of the Famous Patriots of the American Revolution.  

Science with Mrs. Pineault

In science we learned about Grassland habitats with a focus on the African Savanna (Lion King). We then briefly discussed Wetlands like swamps.  Wednesday we took a nice walk around the school and enjoyed some fresh air.  We found a pussy willow branch on our walk; the kids said the buds felt like a rabbits foot.  We did two Mystery Science mini lessons.: "Why do we have leap years?" and "Why do we have daylight savings?". 

Next week we'll be learning about the Tundra and making a model habitat.
