Language Arts with Mr. Wood

In language arts class we completed a spelling and word study unit with short o and short u words.  We did a lot of activities with these words that included Sentence completion; Synonyms and Antonyms; Sentence Types; Past and Present Tense Verbs; ABC Order; Analogies; Coordinate Spelling; Wordsearch.  After our spelling test we went to the library to set some new books!

Math with Mrs. Harris

This week our math unit was: Identify and compare parts of sets of objects and write equivalent fractions.  We are going to continue to practice working with fractions next week  And possibly do another math puzzle.

After vacation our math unit will be: Identify and compare parts of a whole object, and write equivalent fractions.

Social Studies with Mr. Kevin

In social studies we read descriptions of 7 types of people who participated in the American Revolution and had to use clue to determine if they we Patriots or Loyalist.  We then read about some of the causes of the war.  We will be talking about The Boston Massacre & The Boston Tea Party.

Science with Mrs. Pineault

In science we worked all week on our ocean foldable project.  They came out awesome!!!  We used these foldables to learn about the four zones in the ocean and answered some questions.  We will be wrapping up learning about salt water habitats soon.  The next habitats we will be learning about are wetlands and grasslands.  We will start the grasslands off by watching the movie the Lion King, it is a perfect example of the grasslands.

Language Arts with Mr. Wood

In language arts class we read the book Kate & The Beanstalk by Mary Pope Osborne.  Then as a class we brainstormed about giants to get some creative ideas for our writing.  As a final product through a guided lesson the students independently wrote a short 3 sentence story about a giant.  Next week we will be doing a spelling unit with Short o and Short u words.

Math with Mrs. Harris

This week our math unit was: Read, write, and draw fractions (1/2, 1/3, 1/4) when given sets of objects.

Next week our math unit will be: Identify and compare parts of sets of objects and write equivalent fractions.

Social Studies with Mr. Kevin

In social studies we are starting to learn about the American Revolution with an introductory unit.  We read about what caused the war and looked at a timeline of major events.  

Science with Mrs. Pineault

In science we learned about freshwater habitats, like ponds.  We started to learn about saltwater habitats (oceans).  We started making a foldable detailing the four zones in the ocean and will continue working on this through next week.

February 2nd

Please remember the kids can always work on iReady lessons at home to get more reading and math practice in.

We have now had 2 snow days.  At day 4 we will be learning remotely.  

Language Arts with Mr. Wood

In language arts we read a story about vampire bats.  As a class we answered questions about the reading.  We discussed long vowel sounds and the letter "y" as a vowel.  The kids answered some true/false questions about bats.  The they individually completed a crossword puzzle with vocab word from the reading.  

Math with Mrs. Harris

This week our math unit was: Read, write, and draw fractions (1/2, 1/3, 1/4).  Today, as a class we worked together to complete an iReady math lesson on the smart board.

Social Studies with Mr. Kevin

In social studies we finished learning about Colonial America by matching up some job descriptions with pictures to represent the job.  The with a partner we played memory with the job cards.  We designed our binder cover for our next major unit which is learning about the American Revolution.  Next week we will start learning about the American Revolution with an introductory unit.  

Science with Mrs. Pineault

In science we learned about the layers of the rainforest.  We had to write about each layer, color the layers, and put them in order on large construction paper.  They are on display in Mrs. Pineault's classroom!  We did two mini Mystery Science units today called: "Is the 5 second rule true?" & "Can animals really predict the weather?".  Next week we will learn about freshwater habitats, like ponds.
