Language Arts with Mr. Wood

In language arts class the students did a spelling unit with long a and long i words that end with silent e.   We practiced these words with a variety of activities that included: Sentence completion; Synonyms and Antonyms; Verb Tenses, Inflectional Endings, Analogies, ABC order, and a Wordsearch.

Next week we will be reading about bugs!

Math with Mrs. Harris

This week we finished our math unit from last week: Identify and describe common solid figures by their attributes.  We started a new unit: Identify and compare lines, line segments and rays, which we will continue working on next week.

Social Studies with Mr. Kevin

In social studies we started talking about the American Civil War.  We talked briefly about the causes of the war.  Then color coded a map to show which states were part of the Union and which states were part of the Confederacy.   We made a timeline of important events that we will refer back to throughout the unit.

Next week we will continue learning about the Civil War.

Science with Mrs. Pineault

In science we talked about what happens when you heat or cool something?  We learned that chemical reactions happen and that heating and cooling a substance can cause changes- some of which are reversible.

Next week we will learn about force and motion.

Next week we will start talking about the American Civil War.

Science with Mrs. Pineault

In science we started the week with a fun investigation where the kids explored what properties are best suited for a specific purpose.  I think the funniest one was one student trying to eat cereal with a spoon made from paper!  We then talked about how objects can be built up from smaller sets of pieces.

Next week we will do a Mystery Science Lesson called "Why does it get dark during a solar eclipse?" Then we will be talking about what happens when you heat or cool something.
