In Yr 7 Textiles, students are introduced to the world of Textiles. They will be given the opportunity to develop skills in the varied Textile Fields.
A major focus on this course is for students to be able to use a sewing machine proficiently and safely.
Skills relating to the maintenance and care of equipment are required for cutting, sewing and decorating fabrics of simple articles and a major design task.
Safety In The Textiles Room- This unit will comprise of theory associated with sewing room safety, machine usage and maintenance. Students will demonstrate how they can successfully thread and load a sewing machine to obtain their license.
Inspirations From Different Cultures- This unit aims to broaden student knowledge and understanding of Textiles and Design within different cultures. They explore imagery and symbolism of Indigenous Australian Art and Mexican Designs. They manipulate the surface of Calico using fabric markers and then produce their designed fabric into usable products.
Monster Kit Bag- Students will gain an understanding of the design process with a given design brief outlining the needs and constraints of the problem to be solved. Students will design and create a Monster Kit Bag by transforming the material of Calico with Tye-Dye techniques. They then extend their machine sewing skills applying their monster design with the technique of Applique. The end product will be a usable flap bag with a strap.
Theory
Each unit will have a small amount of theory involved in the delivery of the content. It is required to complete all theory work and practicals. This will be delivered via the Textiles Google Site and Google Classroom. Self evaluation and reflection on the process, practice and practicals are required.
There are 2 sessions scheduled one after another during the week (Double Session)
All work should be completed within class time. However, some theory work including self evaluation and reflection on the process, practice and practicals may need to be completed at home.
