In year 7 students begin to develop their skills for understanding and interacting with the four areas of the Humanities. Students will engage with Civics and Citizenship, History, Geography and Economic and Business. The course aims to provide a framework for students to examine the complex processes that have shaped the modern world and to investigate responses to different challenges including people’s interconnections with the environment.
Civics and Citizenship
Students will study Australia’s secular system of government supports a diverse society with shared values and examine what it means to be Australian by identifying the reasons for and influences that shape national identity.
History
Students will study the ancient world including the discoveries and the mysteries of history in a range of societies including Australia, Egypt and China.
Geography
Students will study place and livability where they undertand the way we a people live and move between places and spaces. Additionally, students will study water as a resource and the nature of water scarcity.
Economics and Business
Students will consider what it means to be a consumer, a worker and a producer in the market along with investigating how businesses and individuals use enterprising behaviours how this contributes to business success.
There are 3 Humanities sessions in the year 7 timetable where students learn about the four areas of the Humanities and develop skills required to engage with these.
It is recommended that students spend 10 minutes revising their learning from each of their Humanities classes throughout the week and additionally completing any set tasks that were not completed in class time or that are outlined by their Humanities teacher.
