The Athlete Development Program aims to develop students as athletes and help prepare them the rigours of their sport. It is a select entry program with a maximum of 25 positions available, students who want to be a part of the program must apply via the application form. Successful applicants must meet the following criteria:
Athlete development- Showing commitment to their sport
Effort and behaviour- Good
Attendance- 90%
Academic- Satisfactory at minimum
Sports that students can currently apply for are:
Rugby League
AFL
Netball
Basketball
Cricket
Volleyball
Soccer
Student will undertake the following areas of study as part of their theory schedule:
Nutrition and performance
Technology in sport
Drugs in sport
Body systems
Injury prevention
Fitness components
During practical sessions students will participate in strength and conditioning activities to prepare them for their sport. Each student will have an individualised program from our exercise physiologist specific to their sport.
The Athlete Development Program is timetabled to four hours a week with two hours for practical and two hours for theory.
The Athlete Development Program will require some work at home on research tasks and assessment material. Students will also be expected to complete their strength training program and attend Sports Academy training sessions before and after school.
