Our last week of term has been very busy. All the hard work learning our songs for our assembly paid off and the children performed beautifully. On thursday we had a special visitor. Santa came to visit our nursery and brought us presents. On Friday we finished with our school disco which was enjoyed by all. We had lots of pom poms, ribbons and other resources to dance with.

This week we have been reading the story 'The Snowman' by Raymond Briggs. We have looked at both the book and the film and have had lots of discussions about what is happening in the story. We have been practicing our cutting skills by cutting out circles and putting them together to make our own snowmen. We have also been exploring fake snow in the sensory tray.
On Friday the children took home christmas decoration templates for them to decorate at home. We had some beautiful babubles returned which we hung on our Christmas tree.

We have concluded our work around 'We're going on a Bear Hunt' by learning about different types of bears. We looked at brown bears, black bears, pollar bears and panda bears. We learnt about where they lived and what they liked to eat. We then chose which bear we wanted to represent and created a mask from a range of materials. We also finished our representations by making caves out of paper and painting them before adding our bears.
In our cave we have added torches and the children have had great fun using them to read their books and mark making in the dark. Outside we have been retelling the story using props in the tuff tray.
As it is now December we have put up our Christmas tree and started to make some decorations to hang in the nursery.

We are continuing to do work for our 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt' display and this week we have made our big, dark forest pictures. We have made ourselves a cave in the nursery and sponge printed the sides to represent the foliage around it. On Friday we dipped our feet in brown paint to make muddy footprints 'squelch, squerch'.
We have done some excellent collaborative work this week, working together and sharing resources with our friends.

This week we have started to read the story 'We're going on a bear hunt' by Michael Rosen. We have been making different representations of some of the obstacles the family encounter on their bear hunt. So far we have made grass, river and snowstorm pictures.

During free flow we have been developing our fine motor skills by screwing nuts onto screws and outside we have been role playing picnics with our friends.

We began our week continuing our work on Remembrance Day. On Monday the children watched some of the Remembrance day service at the cenetaph and then work together to make their own poppy reef. They sat beautifully silent for the 2 minutes silence at 11.00am.
As part of Anti bullying week ,Tuesday was odd socks day, so we came to school in odd socks. We have been filling up socks in the sand tray and we designed our own odd socks. To reinforce the idea that we are all different we made shape aliens and they were all different!!!
Outside we used socks to measure ourselves
We ended the week by coming to school in our pyjamas to support Children in need. We developed our fine motor skills by designing Pudsey's clothes and then cutting them out and sticking them onto our Pudsey bears. Many of the children decided to stick their Pudsey bear onto their jumpers as they had done with the poppies earlier in the week.

We have returned with lots of enthusiasm for our topic on fireworks and many of the children were able to link it back to the work we did on Diwali before half term. We have made firework pictures using paint and on the interactive white board.
During free play we have been developing our fine motor skills by making firework marks in sand, making patterns with elastic bands on the geo boards and using small tools on the creative table. We also had an invasion of robots where the children found cardboard boxes and made faces on them to pretend to be a robot. This proved to be a very popular activity. The girls decided to decorate the home corner for a diwali party which again was accessed by many of the children. Outside some of the children have been busy making our own version of hopscoth.
On Friday we began thinking about Remembrance Day and mixed up red glace icing to spread on biscuits to look like poppys. After eating them we washed and dried our plates and bowls.

This week we have been reading the story 'the Colour Monster' by Anna Llenas and learning about our feelings and emotions. We made our own colour monsters and talked about what feeling they represented. 'Yellow is happy', 'red is angry, grrr'. We then made emotion puppets by drawing faces representing different emotions.
During free play we have been practicing mark making by copying patterns using felt pens and there was a lot of interest in playing with the babies. The children decided they wanted to make beds for the dolls so they found cardboard boxes and decorated them to make beds. Outside we have been developing our cutting skills by cutting herds and leaves. In the sand pit we have been using the foam bricks to make our own walls.
W/C 07.10.24
We have continued our topic 'All about me' by learning about our bodies. We have been learning to name our body parts and think about what we use them for. The children looked in the mirror and used paper plates to create their face.
On the carpet we had hospital role play and the children took on the roles of doctors and nurses and plenty of toys were given injections 'to make them better'. There was a lot of interest in the Xray photos so we decided to make our own skeleton pictures.
Outside we have been building with blocks and practicing our mark making.

We will be learning about our families, how we are all unique and what we have in common. We will learn to talk about our feelings and how we can manage them.
