This week we have explored a variety of topics. The first part of the week we finished our work on dinosaurs by making posters and large dinosaur pictures using natural materials to collage them with. We drew our favourite dinosaur and our teachers wrote down all the facts we could remember. Outside in the sand pit we have been building bridges with the construction pieces to help the dinosaurs get from one side to the other.
Many of our families are celebrating Ramadan so we have been learning about the festival of Eid and finding out about how our friends celebrate. We used our fine motor skills to move oats around in a tray to reveal a picture from the celebration of Eid. We have made mendhi patterns on hands, prayer mats and our own representations of the moon and star symbol of Islam.
We finished the week with Science Day. In nursery we have been looking at how shadows are formed and how we could make our own shadows, We drew around our friends outside in the garden and during group time we learnt how the shadows we formed. We then made our own shadow puppets and used torches to create our own shadows indoors.

This week we have been learning about the life cycle of dinosaurs and we found two large dinosaur eggs in the nursery when we came to school on Monday. On the creative table we used dinosaur feet to make patterns on large paper. We continued pattern making using foam shapes and created both patterns and pictures with them.
In maths we have been learning to measure using non standard equipment. The children really enjoyed the lessons and were very eager to continue measuring throughout the day.
During free play we have been developing both our language and mark making skills by role playing 'office'.

The highlight of our week was World Book Day on Thursday. Lots of us dressed up as our favourite book characters and lots of our mums stayed and read with us in the morning. Earlier in the week the children set up their own book area and read books indendently with their friends.
This week we have been thinking about how we know dinosaurs existed. We watched a video explaining how the dinosaurs died out and looked at lots of pictures of dinosaur fossils. We made representations of dinosaur skeletons on the creative table and we even had a go at finding fossils in our sand tray.
Outside it has been a building week. We have created many different structures improving them with extra resources each day.

We began our week by working together to create our own dinosaur world using junk modelling. we used a variety of materials and then had great fun playing with the dinosaurs in it.
in maths we have been learning to recognise our numbers. We have been using number fans to find numbers and we have been matching the correct number of cubes to a numeral. We worked as a group to order numbers to 10 and some of us cut out dinosaurs with numbers to put in the correct order.
In music we have been learning new songs and the names of different instruments. We are getting very good at passing our instruments around the circle so that everyone gets a go.
Outside we have been revisiting the ramps and cars. The children experimented with moving the ramps up and down to see how fast they went. ' If it is higher the cars go faster. Like hot wheels'. They were much more confident this time with trying new things. Some of us found different things to roll down the ramps and some decided to make the ramps into slides.

Our topic this term is 'Dinosaurs' and we returned to find large footprints around the nursery. We have read some stories with dinosaurs in them and the children were very keen to draw some of them from the pictures in the book. We also have some dinosaurs playing in our nursery!
The children have been very creative this week during their free flow time. They have been very busy at the creative table turning boxes into all sorts of things. One child made an ice cream parlour and then drew some ice cream cones to go inside. Other children were cutting up paper and said they were making biscuits which they then took to to the home corner. They then got out lots of other different resources to represent food and said they were having a party.
In maths we have been learning to recognise numbers. The fishing game was very popular and as they caught their fish the children said the number that was on it.

We finished the term by learning about Lunar New Year. The children listened to the story of how the Chinese calendar was formed and learnt that this will be the Year of the Dragon. We sponged templates of dragons to make sillouette pictures and made their own zigzag dragons. We decorated chinese lanterns and had a go at chinese writing. In cooking looked at what happens to noodles when we add hot water. We then used chopsticks to eat our noodles, it is not as easy as it looks! During role play we pretended to cook noodles and wrote down orders in our chinese restaurant. We also used chopsticks on the maths table to put the correct number of popoms into chinese boxes.
Outside we created our own dragon and paraded it around the playground with the reception children cheering us on.

We made choc chip cookies on Thursday and our cooking theme has extended into our free play. We have had tea parties in the home corner and made cupcakes and soup outside in the mud kitchen.
In the sand pit we have been learning about forces by rolling trucks down planks into the sand. We used lots of different size cars and moved the ramps into different positions to see how the cars moved.

We have all returned to school after eager to see our friends and have lots of fun. This term our topic is 'Nursery Rhymes'. We will be looking at a different rhyme each week and doing lots of activities around it. This week we are learning Humpty Dumpty. We have learnt the rhyme and made lots of representations of Humpty Dumpty using different media. We did some experiments to see where Humpty could fall with out hurting himself. We dropped him onto a cushion, into water and finally on to the ground. We also found different ways to move Humpty dumpty off of the wall.
We role played the rhyme with our friends and then sequenced it using pictures.
