We have come to the end of a very successful year in the nursery. The children have all made lots of progress and we had lots of un getting there. We finished by everyone helping to clean all our toys, making our own houses and had a visit from Attendersaurus, who gave certificates to those children who had excellent attendance. The children are all ready for a well earned rest and are excited about moving on to the next part of their journey. Have a lovely summer!!

We are rapidly approaching the end of the year. We started our week with Sports Day for the afternoon nursery. We have been lucky both days with the weather not being too hot.
We had our final Foundling Museum workshop on Wednesday. This week the children were introduced to the lamb motif which can be seen on the building and on the children's clothing. The children worked with clay to produce their own lambs by adding a variety of white materials onto the clay.
We finished our pirate topic by making pirate ships.

We have been enjoying the hot weather by joining the reception children in their foot spa.
This week our Foundling Museum workshop focused on where the foundling children slept and the routines they followed for bedtime. The children all decorated a piece of material which they then all joined together to make a large decorated bedsheet.
We finished the week with Sports Day for the morning nursery. They participated in a number of different acticvities and were really good at lining up and waiting for their turns.

This week we have been learning about plastics in the ocean. The children were able to give reasons why we should not leave rubbish on the beach and were able to give suggestions about what to do with it if there were no bins there. Many of us brought plastic bottles in from home and we began the week by using them to make model fish.

this week we have been thinking about what other animals live in the ocean. The children were able to name many different sea creatures and asked to make octopi on the creative table. The children cut out octopus body and then folded paper to make concertina arms. We practised our counting by ensuring there were eight arms on our octpous.
During our visit from the Foundling museum we learnt about how important friends were to the foundling children. Together the children made a large friendship bracelet on the carpet and then went to the tables to design their own tokens to add to our large bracelet. We finished by making our own small frienship bracelets to give to someone special.

Our topic this term is 'Under the Sea' . We have began by reading the story 'Sharing a shell' by Julia Donaldson. We have been developing our scissor skills by cutiing out shell pictures and building our own ice cream cones. We also worked together to create our own rockpool to put in our small world area.
We are very lucky to have The Foundling Museum coming in and doing workshops with some of the children. Over the next six weeks the children will learn about how the children lived during their time in the Founding hospital through a range of creative activities. This week we learnt about the founder of the museum Thomas Coram and the small tokens mothers often left with their children. This small token was often a mitten, one being left with the child and one being kept with the mother. We created our own mittens and then played some games with them.

We have finished our topic 'How do things change' by learning about how we change as we grow older. We started by looking at babies and had great fun playing with the baby clinic and taking care of our babies. We then thought about how we had changed since we were babies and the different things we can do now we are older. We then finished by thinking about what we would like to do when we are adults and how our bodies change as we age.
