We have finished the term with lots of exciting activities. We put on our angel costumes and performed our Nativity assembly to our parents and received lots of great feedback. In the Nursery we had a Christmas party and Father Christmas came to visit us. On our last day we had a disco with the reception children and showed off our great dancing moves.

Lots of time this week has been spent rehearsing for our Christmas assembly. The children are singing beautifully and remembering the actions to the songs. In the nursery we have been learning about the Christmas story and made our own representions . We made baubles at home with our parents to hang on our christmas tree.

This week we have continued to use technology in our play by programming the beebots to move around the floor. The children quickly learnt the sequence of buttons in order to make their beebot move. On the manipulative table we have been developing our fine motor skills by scooping up rice and lentils into bowls. Outside we have been collecting leaves and painting them different colours and learning to recognise numbers and count the dots on the giant dominoes.
As we are now in December it is time for us to decorate our Christmas tree and make some decorations for our class.
We kept with our changing materials theme for our cooking and mixed up our own glace icing to ice our biscuits with.

We have finished our cave and the children have been finding out about light and dark by using torches to read story books inside.
We have been learning how different materials change by making ice and then playing with it while it melted. Children were able to make links with polar bears whilst they played with the ice. We also made toast and looked at the difference between the bread before and after it went into the toaster.
We made footprints using paint to represent 'thick oozy mud' .
Outside we have been role playing Firefighters with the reception children, practising our mark making on large cardboard boxes and making pictures using leaves.

We are continuing our work around the story 'We're going on a bear hunt' by Michael Rosen. We started the week by sponge printing the outside of our cave and then went outside and collected leaves to stick onto it.
Some of us sequenced the story on the interactive white board by drawing pictures of the different obstacles.

In maths we have been learning to use positional language such as , over, under, behind, infront. We had great fun moving around outside in the garden and using the language.

We finished the week by improving our fine motor skills by spreading butter and cream cheese onto crackers and then eating them.

Nursery began their week by celebrating 'anti bullying week' by coming to school in odd socks. We talked about how we are all different and how that makes our class special. We designed our own odd socks. We also had to look after 2 aliens who had left their planet because their friends were not kind to them because they were different.
We have begun to read the story 'We're going on a bear hunt' by Michael Rosen. After listening to the story we looked at the pictures of different bears and made our own bear masks.
We have had a lot of rain this week but that has not stopped us having lots of fun in the splashing in the puddles in the sand pit.
We finished the week by coming to school in our pyjamas and making lots of Pudsy bear pyjamas.

We have come back after half term eager to learn and full of enthusiasm. This term our topic is 'Is it Shiny?'. We have begun by learning about the 'Diwali, The Festival of light'. The children made their own salt dough and moulded divas which they painted and decorated. They also practised their cutting skills by cutting out diva and flame templates.
The children have listened to the story about Rama and Sita and acted it out with puppets during free play.
We have also been learning about Remembrance Day. Everyone made a poppy to add to our Rememberance Day Poppy Wreath. The children sat beautifully for a 2 minutes silence to remember all the soldiers.
On Friday we took part in the Skipping Fundraiser. We practised our jumping by jumping over cones and hurdles and then took turns in jumping over the skipping rope. Some of us had a go at using the skipping ropes to skip on our own.

This week in maths we have been learning to make repeating patterns. We used a range of equipment to practice with and then made our own repeating patterns with unifix cubes.
In our jigsaw lessons we have been learning about responsibilty. One of the challenges the children had was to take of a soft toy for a half an hour. Many of them were really responsible and took great care of the toy they were looking after.
During free play there was a lot of interest in cooking both inside and outside. We have had lots of chocolate cake and noodles!

This week we have been reading the book 'The Colour Monster' by Anna Llenas and learning about different emotions. The children have been very enthuasiastic with this topic and are able to name and match the colours of the the different emotions in the book. At the creative table we made our own colour monsters and talked about our feelings. ' I feel happy in my house' 'Sad, when I hurt' , Red one, angry Rrrrr'. Later in the week we made our own emotions puppets and practised making different emotion faces.
During free play we had lots of fun outside in the garden. We rolled balls and water down chutes at the water area and some of us experimented with other objects to see if they would roll as quickly as the balls. Some of us explored the cornflour. It was very messy but great fun. Inside some of us discovered that the magnetic construction stuck to the junk modelling trolley. Another child used their creative skills to make a big butterfly on the carpet.
We have also been busy practising our mark making on the interactive whiteboard and making patterns and letters with lolly sticks in sand.

'Our bodies' was our theme for this week and we have learnt lots of songs and games to learn the names of parts of our bodies. We also learnt how to stratch our body and move in different ways. At the creative table we used different materials to make our paper plate faces. First we chose our skin tone to colour our plates and then we used mirrors to look at our features. We chose our own materials for eyes, nose, mouth and hair etc.
O the carpet we set up a hospital role play. The children were very enthusiastic and the phrase 'I am a doctor' was heard many times throughout the week. The children demonstrated sustained concentration whilst playing and were able to share the equipment with their peers. On the manipulative table we made faces by rolling, squeezing and squasheing dough. We also drew around one of our friends and then labelled his body parts.

This week we have been learning about our families. We have been drawing our own representations of our families and some of us brought in photos of our families to share with the class. On the creative table we have been practising our fine motor skills by making puppets of family members. Some of us created the whole family!
In maths we dressed up as family members and role played the rhyme 'Five in the bed'
During free play some of the children discovered the C.D player and they have had great fun playing musical statues each morning. Shaving foam was another big favourite this week with the chidren exploring the texture and feel of the foam to expand their language. Outside in the garden we have been practising our scissor skills by trimming the bushes.

This week we have been reading the story 'Owl babies' by Martin Waddell and have collaged our own baby owls and some of us drew our own pictures..

We have had a great start to the new year. This term our topic is 'All about me'. We will learn about our bodies different types of families, how to be good friends and how to try our best with our activities. We have spent the first few weeks exploring our environment and welcoming in the new children who are joining us this year.
