Tēnā koutou welcome to 2026 at Mangōnui School. We are very excited to welcome you all to our class room and to share in your child’s learning journey. Our first weeks will be primarily about getting to know each other and establishing the routines of school. Our class website is available via the Mangonui School website and this has resources available to view and share with your tamaiti at home.
My name is Carol Moffat and I am the teacher here in Pukeko class. I come from an Early Childhood Background and have been teaching for 20 years. Building strong relationships is important to me and this is something that I will focus on with your tamaiti. I am a Far North girl having gone to school in Kaitaia, and I live at Coopers Beach.
Ilisa Foley is our Kaimahi and she has been a part of Pukeko Class for 12 years. She lives here in Mangōnui.
Together we want to help your child grow their sense of belonging here at Mangōnui School so that they can thrive, learn, and become great leaders.
“Nga rangatira mō āpōpō ~ leaders of tomorrow”
The school day starts at 8.45 and the last bell is at 2.20. If you need to pick your child up earlier that is fine just let the teachers or Marcy in the office know.
Reading books will come home Monday - Thursday.
We follow the guided reading principles - Read just 1 to 2 pages per day focusing on letter sounds and sounding out the words. The back and front pages of the books have some useful ideas for learning at home.
Some house keeping
Hats :- we all wear these out in the playground. We have a class set, but if you know that your child has one they would be more likely to wear then send it along to save us all a battle.
We have a drinking fountain at school but we find most children prefer their own drink bottle.
Lunch is provided by the contracted school catering team ‘Wilde Lunches’, but this does not include morning tea so please send along some kai in a lunchbox. To help us minimise rubbish we ask for no plastic or unnecessary packaging.
Swimming - we are hoping to swim 3 days per week (Tues, Wed and Thurs). Our slot is after lunch so if you can please send some named togs and a towel.
We work on a ‘no togs no swim’ policy.
A change of clothes is also helpful - again please name them .
If you have any questions please feel free to ask 😀
