Zoom Netiquette Guidelines
Zoom Etiquette For Students
To get the best possible experience out of your Zoom classes, let’s take a look at some basic dos and don’ts:
Dos
Test your internet connection, camera and microphone settings, and review your instructor’s camera and class participation requirements. The expectation will likely be that your camera is on; however, if you have concerns with having your camera on, please email your instructor in advance. Troubleshoot connectivity issues in advance, and contact campus IT about connecting with a Hotspot or VPN, if needed.
Ensure that your environment is Zoom ready. This includes ensuring your space is private, has appropriate lighting and no background noise. Silence your cell, and close extra tabs that are cluttering your web space. Situate yourself in an appropriate academic background or use a neutral virtual background, if you do not want to ‘share’ your space!
Clothing is not optional! Be sure to dress appropriately for going to class, because you are!
Make sure your name and profile picture are set. To change these, click on ‘Participants’, and open the blue ‘More’ button next to your name.
Mute your microphone to reduce noise. Use Zoom features like Chat and Raise Hand to ask questions and make connections.
Choose ‘Gallery’ View in the top right for class discussions, and ‘Speaker’ View for presentations.
Log in on time, to avoid disruption for everyone.
Don’ts
Never enter a Zoom that you weren't invited to, share the Zoom access information for your class with others, or enter under a fake name.
Do not take screenshots, cell phone pictures, or otherwise record the meeting, your classmates, or your instructor without express permission to do so.
Refrain from driving, walking around during the class meeting, or engaging in non-class related activities during class session.
Do not engage with household members off camera, or allow others to engage in class discussions.
Avoid engaging in texting, social media, course work from other classes, or other distractions while in class.
