University of Maine System Recommendations for Students
Although the University of Maine at Presque Isle does not have a computer requirement for all students, many students choose to purchase a laptop or personal device. As you progress through your academic career, and certainly if you are a fully online student, you may find it beneficial to upgrade and purchase a suitable device.
If you are using a personal computer, the minimum Operating System should include:
PC = Operating System, Windows 10
Mac = Operating System, High Sierra
Note that Chromebooks, while cost-effective are not recommended, because they can create a barrier to downloading some essential course documentation and programs. If using a Chromebook, please ensure that you have alternate access to a computer for downloading some program templates and taking proctored exams for programs that have that requirement.
Minimum Computer Specifications
Processor – i5 through i7 Intel processors (recommended i5 or i7 series)
RAM - 8 GB to 16 GB
Hard Drive - 256GB or larger solid state drive (SSD) (recommended 500 GB or higher)

Backup Device - External hard drive and/or USB Flash Drive recommended
Online Storage and/or backup for important documents (ex: One Drive or Google Drive)
Also needed for most blended and remote classes - Internal or external webcam, built-in microphone or external headset, ability to connect to wifi
*Note that certain programs or majors may have additional recommendations and/or requirements
