Microsoft Office 365 is the cloud (web-based) version of Microsoft office that many of us are familiar with!
The University of Maine System offers the Microsoft Office 365 Suite of programs to faculty, staff, and students for free.
Visit office.com and "Sign in" using your maine.edu email address. Office can be installed for use on one personal computer (PC or MAC), at no cost by signing in and selecting "Install Office". The online version (Office 365) may also be used, if you are unable to download on your personal device.

MAC or PC, as a Student You Get MS Office for FREE!
The University of Maine System has an agreement with Microsoft that allows all of our students, faculty, and staff the personal use of certain Microsoft Office products.
The full MS Office package can be downloaded for Windows or Mac OS X on up to 5 personally owned devices. You can also access Microsoft’s online, collaborative version of the Office suite, called OneDrive on any computer with an internet connection.
OneDrive includes access to the following Microsoft tools:
Word (word processing--many professors will require you to submit assignments as Word documents)
Excel (for spreadsheets)
PowerPoint (for presentations)
OneNote (collaborative notebook tool)
Teams (chat-based workspaces)
Sway (blogging tool)
Forms (tool to create and share surveys, forms, registrations, and more)
Yammer (private team-based social networking tool)
and more!
Let's Look at How...
In your computer's browser bar, go to office.com/getOffice365 and select the "Students" link
Select "Find out if your are eligible", and step through the prompts using your @maine.edu email address. Verify you account through the email (if your verification email isn’t received shortly, check junk mail and spam folders).
With the verification email, select "Complete Office 365 Education signup." Enter your first and last name and password.
In the left-hand menu, you can view and click on the Office app you wish to access
You can return to OneDrive anytime, from your myUMPI portal, on the launchpad, by clicking the OneDrive icon:
Looking to install Office on your device?
Now, if you would like to install Office on your device (the device install includes access to Microsoft Publisher), follow the additional steps:
Log into your Office account at office.com
In the top right corner (under your profile info) click "Install Office", and then "Office 365 Apps"
There will be an option to save a file (filename ends with “.exe” for Windows, “.dmg” for Mac).
Locate the saved file in the downloads area of the browser, run the file, and follow the prompts.
The screen titled “First things first” offers two options. Select “No Thanks” for both.
