Craig A. Mason, PhD

I am a Professor of Education and Applied Quantitative Methods in the School of Learning and Teaching at the University of Maine. I also have a long-term collaboration with the Early Hearing Detection and Intervention Program (EHDI) in the National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities within the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. You can see a video of a panel I was on in which we discussed national EHDI activity (and other newborn screening projects) as part of the monthly Grand Rounds series hosted by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta. I am also affiliated with the Maine Education Policy Research Institute

My primary research interests are in Developmental Epidemiology and Biobehavioral Informatics. My work in developmental epidemiology focuses on newborn hearing loss -- from screening to diagnosis to early intervention to developmental outcomes. I am also interested in growth and development in children, as well as risk factors, interventions, and outcomes for children who experience a birth defect or developmental disability. My work in biobehavioral informatics focuses on electronic data linkage and data system design across all of these areas. Common to all of this work is a strong interest in Quantitative Methods.

I am also interested in Math Education, particularly technology-enhanced math education through systems such as ASSISTments and From Here to There.

I should note that I have a fairly elaborate web-site. Reflecting this, links and buttons in my web-site referring to "home" point to this, my "home" page.
