Who are the living-donors of kidneys?

In recent years there is a steady increase in the number of living kidney donors, who choose to donate one of their two kidneys to be transplanted in another person which suffer from chronic kidney dysfunction. Modern technology minimizes the risks and discomfort associated with the donation and, in the overwhelming majority of cases, donors do not suffer from any long-lasting detrimental effects. Nevertheless, the donation is associated with invasive surgical procedure. In this research we sought to understand what are the characteristics and motivations of these donors.
