KSDE's Limited Residency Licensure program is an approved alternate licensure pathway for candidates not already licensed as a teacher in Kansas. To be accepted through KSDE, candidates must be selected by a school district to be hired as the teacher of record in a high incidence special education classroom in Kansas. Qualified candidates through KSDE must have a bachelor's degree (from a KSDE recognized accredited university) with a minimum GPA of 2.5 on the most recent 60 credit hours and must have at least one year of work experience as a paraprofessional. FHSU’s pathway for achieving licensure to teach high incidence special education through the KSDE alternate route to licensure is called the Limited Residency-High Incidence Special Education program. It is a two+ year online program, where courses are taken in sequential order.

AEP 800: Innovative Technology Integration (3 hours)
AEP 855: Educational Leadership (3 hours)
AEP 859: Curriculum and Evaluation of PK-12 Schools (3 hours)
AEP 866: Fostering Engagement in Today's Learners (3 hours)
AEP 867: Instructional Design and Assessment (3 hours)
AEP 880: Cultural Diversity (3 hours)
Program Requirements:
First three (3) semesters of the academic year a 15-minute video of you teaching with an accompanying lesson plan must be submitted and shared through OneDrive.
Completed coursework on the approved Plan of Study (see above). Students must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher throughout the program.
Passing score of 32 points on the PPAT
The PPAT is the comprehensive evaluation required for graduation
The PPAT is required to be eligible to move from the limited teaching license to an initial teaching license
Completed in SPED 839
Attendance strongly recommended at 4 PPAT Preparation Sessions
SPED 839 enrollment requires tuition plus the $300 PPAT fee

Licensure Requirements:
Passing score on the Praxis 5355 SPED: Foundational Knowledge. For more information on test dates and cost, click on the following link Praxis Special Education 5355
Entry GPA: 2.5. Once in the program, candidates must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0. New admissions to this program are only in the summer or fall semesters. No new admissions accepted in the spring semester.
The Local Education Agency (LEA) and FHSU:
The LEA mentor and university advisor must share candidate information for collaboration purposes.
Mandatory Pre-Teaching Training:
A two-day mandatory training prior to the beginning of class is required in the fall semester.
Virtual Training will take place on July 23 & 24, 2024.
