One limitation that could be discussed, is the lack of males who chose female participants for table 7 however, it can be argued that these are results and they demonstrate a state of parasocial relationships that wasn’t fully discussed or known. Even though there was only one person who chose a female character as a male participant, it provides findings for RQ2, and how this side of parasocial relationships can be skewed due to less intense parasocial relationships with that gender. This can be described as external validity, as it depends on the participant to provide more varied responses.
Another way these findings could be skewed is internal motivations as we saw with people who negatively responded to the characters that they chose to answer for. For example, we saw those four participants who answered that they were happy for their character to die or go through pain in their show. This could be due to the fact that participants have an internalized hate for that character, and actually have a PSR due to their hatred for the character. This could also be classified as some viewers may actually like to watch certain people go through suffering and pain, due to internalized feelings about life, real life interpersonal relationships, etc.
