A proposal was necessary for approving our research instruments. The research questions posed for inquiry are as follows:
RQ1: Are viewers who binge watch more likely to experience intense parasocial breakups with TV shows?
RQ2: Are viewers more likely to experience stronger parasocial breakups with characters of similar gender?
H1: There is a relationship between binge watching and parasocial breakup intensity.
H2: Gender similar viewers and characters have a stronger parasocial relationship.
The final product of instrument fell into that of a survey. The survey would be distributed using snowball and conveniance sampling. A questionnaire was distributed to participants who have screened a show from hand picking based on popularity of show, and which characters of the shows would fit certain questions for the research. There will be options of shows which participants have viewed, and whichever show they say they have seen, the survey will take the participants to a subsection about that show.
The audience for distribution will vary from males and females, ages 18-30. This age grouping has been determined to be very popular when it comes to binge watching shows.
