Professional Development and Leadership Training:
What is SSCCC?
SSCCC is an acronym for Student Senate for California Community College. It is a non-profit student organization recognized by the Board of Governors of the California Community Colleges. The SSCCC is a representation of all California community college (CCC) students in state-level shared governance and legislative advocacy. Their mission statement is to pursue policies that will improve and promote student success, engage and empower local student leaders, and enrich the collegiate experience for all California community college students.
SSCCC Professional Development and Leadership Training 2022
On September 30th and October 1st, SSCCC held their third annual Professional Development and Leadership Training conference hybrid at The Westin San Francisco Airport and online. The City College of San Francisco Associated Students Executive Council with AS Ocean Campus and Downtown Center council members attended and represented CCSF at the two-day conference. The student representatives brought their enthusiasm, curiosity, and strength as a community of leaders to learn, support, and represent City College of San Francisco.
Professional Development and Leadership Training Day One:
The event starts at nine o'clock. Attendees were checking in and getting breakfast together. Soon, participants were called to the ballroom to begin the conference joined by virtual participants via live stream. The morning session was graced by the keynote speaker Dr. Abdimalik Abuul after being introduced by Clemaus Tervalon, the president of SSCCC (one of six Board Officers). Dr. Buul gave an inspirational speech filled with value that can be kept pertinent forever in the life of many people.
After lunch, the entire afternoon corresponded in workshop sessions. Different multiple workshop sessions took place simultaneously. At workshop number two, City College of San Francisco was represented in the Better Together: Collaborating to Put Students Front and Center by Mitra Sapienza, Heather Brandt and Angelica Campos. They presented insights into how student leaders can take the initiative to disrupt systems that don't center students in the room where it happens.
Professional Development and Leadership Training Day Two:
At the second day of the conference, a special meeting was held on October 1st where delegates were called to cast their votes on SSCCC Vice President of Communications Casy Chang. The Vice President candidate forum was held early evening on September 30th where each candidates running for SSCCC vice president role took turns answering questions asked by the attendees. After the delegates cast their votes, a majority vote was not met so delagets have to recast another vote between the top two Vice President candidates. The adjournment of the special meeting led to a break and lunch before the start of another series of workshop sessions. The second day ended on an afternoon with students coming together from different CCC to attend this event and bid farewell before going on their separate ways. May we meet again.
