Make sure you are using the email icon at the bottom of your Chromebook. Do not use go to gmail from your Google Drive.
It may take a few minutes for the email app to appear at the bottom of your screen, especially if you have not used your Chromebook in awhile.

Use your work email and search the directory to find students to email.
You may email an entire Google Classroom by going to the Classroom>click on "People">check all students>Actions>Email.
