Dance Clinic: Thursday, January 15th 2:35-4:30 & 22nd 2:35-3:50 PM in the theater
Auditions: Friday, January 23rd (Location TBD)
Callbacks on Sunday, January 25th (In the Theatre)
What is a clinic? A clinic is a rehearsal where students will learn exactly what they need to know in order to prepare for the auditions.
What will be taught at clinics? At the dance clinic, all students will be taught a short dance that they will have to perform (with a small group) at the audition. At the vocal clinic, students will learn short excerpts of several songs from the show and they will choose one of these songs to perform individually at the audition. At the review clinic, we will review the dance and songs from the previous two clinics for anyone who was unable to attend them and for anyone who would like extra practice.
What should students bring to clinics? Students must bring their audition packets, a pencil, a highlighter, and a water bottle.
What should students wear to clinics? Comfortable, cool clothing in which they can dance. (Athletic shorts, leggings, t-shirt, gym/jazz shoes; NO sandals, bare feet/socks, crocs, high heels, boots, jeans, sweatshirts, skirts, or dresses)
Do students need to attend all three clinics? Students will need to learn the dance and the songs, so we recommend coming to the dance and vocal clinic. If they cannot attend one or both of these clinics, they should plan to attend the review clinic. Students may come to all three clinics if they choose. If they cannot attend any of the clinics, they will need to either learn the material from a friend or see Mrs. Parsons to come up with other solutions on how to prepare for the auditions.
What if I cannot attend the clinics, but want to audition? Students who have scheduling conflicts or who are sick on the days of the clinics should email the directors (madison.musicals@madisonmohawks.org) as soon as possible so we can figure out a solution. That being said, resources and videos will be available on the Google Classroom (code: TBD) for students to learn the material at home if necessary.
Where can I find the materials and resources from the clinics? Click on the yellow "Clinic Materials" button below.
Where is the Music Room?
Mrs. Wilson's classroom (Rm. 18) is the 1st hallway on the left-hand side after entering the Madison Elementary building and making a left. Follow that hallway to the very back.
Audition Sign-ups will open January 1st, 2026 and will shut off promptly at 9:00pm on Sunday, January 18, 2026

**Please note: Into the Woods is a High School, MVHSTA adjudicated Musical with very complex music/vocal parts. This show has quite a large number of named/soloing roles, and several non- or minimal-singing roles that still have a fair amount of stage time. However, it does not call for a large group ensemble like most msuicals we are used to putting on. It is possible, depending on number of students, that we may choose to create one, however, that is not guaranteed since the script is not set up that way. Solo/Role priority will be given to High School Students first. 7th/8th Grade casting will be considered as needed, but casting is not guaranteed. Please understand that decision is based solely on the needs of this show, and in no way reflects your talents or abilities.
All students 7th-12th Grade are always welcome to participate in Tech/Crew for any of our High School shows.
Should Madison's Into the Woods score an Outstanding Performance with MVHSTA (Miami Valley High School Theatre Awards) and be asked to perform at the MVHSTA Showcase in June 2026 - only High School Cast members will be allowed to perform - this is a MVHSTA rule, not ours.**
***Please note: We will be assigning audition groups based on a number of factors to keep things as fair as possible and keep grouping numbers as equal as possible. This helps ensure that auditions are as equal for everyone across the board as we are humanly capable of. Please be honest and open minded when answering the audition availability question - while we all like to be in a group with our friends it does not help you get the best role for you, and you will not be on stage together for your audition, so please trust our judgement and thought process when it comes to groupings. We want to give you every opportunity to give the best audition you can.***

How do students prepare for the auditions? Students should attend at least two of the clinics. More information can be found by reading the information above under "Clinics" and click on the yellow "Clinic Materials" button.
What can students expect at auditions? Audition groups will be divided into 4 groups. Groups 1 & 2 will overlap and perform their dance auditions together. Groups 3 & 4 will do the same.
When Students are doing their Vocal/Reading section of the audition, they will be called into the theater one at a time from the commons. When they enter the room they will walk onto the stage, standing down stage center. The directors will ask the students to introduce themselves (name, grade, & role(s) for which they are auditioning). Directors will then ask the student which song they would like to sing (students must select ONE song that was taught at the clinics - preferably the one listed for the role they are most interested in). The student will sing the song once by themself with the instrumental recording. If needed, the directors will help the student with timing and pitch. After the singing portion, the student will read the monologue of their choice that was provided in the audition packet. After the monologue, they will go back to the commons until the rest of the students in their group have sung and read their monologues and it is time to do their dance audition. Once all of the students in that group have finished singing and reading, they will be asked to come into the theater together to perform the clinic dance 2-3 times with their peers. If students are in a group where the dance portion of the audition is first, students will be dismissed as soon as they have finished reading and performing their monologue.
Do students need to attend the full audition day? No. When you sign-up for auditions you will list your preference of time slots and will be provided with a 45-min section of time to attend. You only need to attend the auditions during your given time slot. If you arrive early or have to stay later on the day of your audition, you must stay in the Madison High School commons at a table near the theatre doors while you are waiting.
How do I sign up for an audition? Click on the button to the right that says "Audition Sign Ups"
What if I cannot attend auditions? Students who have scheduling conflicts or who are sick on the day of auditions should email Mrs. Carroll (Lauren.Carroll@madisonmohawks.org) as soon as possible to either find an alternative day/time to audition or to schedule a virtual audition via Google Meet.
Do crew members need to audition? No. There will be more information about how to sign up for stage/tech crew at a later date.
Who will be watching the auditions? The directing Team (Mrs. Carroll, Ms. Wilson, & Mrs. Parsons), and most likely 2-3 other audition panel members.
When will students find out their audition results? The cast list will be sent via email to all students who auditioned in the evening following callbacks on January 25th. Cast list will not be publicly posted until 48hrs later after students have had time to view, process, and accept their roles.
What do I do after I've received my results? Take time to process. Auditions are the most difficult part of any show - for both the directors and the actors. Nerves, Stress Levels, and Emotions all run high. Your adrenaline levels will likely be elevated the entire weekend and then there is either a crash or a surge at the end of it when the cast list goes up. This is why it's important to take time to process everything and not react in the moment - whether you got the results you wanted or didn't. Think of it this way - We may have 10 girls audition for The Baker's Wife in Into the Woods, but only 1 girl will get it. That means 1 girl is going to be extremely excited and 9 girls are going to be temporarily broken hearted. It is important to remember that if you get the role you wanted, others may not have - so don't brag or boast. Getting casted in a role does not make you better or more important than any of your castmates. Use that excited energy in a productive way to start preparing for your new role. If you did not get the role you wanted we stress the importance of taking time to process the situation and look at it from all angles. A lot of factors go into casting a show, and not getting the role you auditioned for does not mean you did anything wrong. We ask that everyone takes a full 24hrs before reaching out to anyone on the directing team with questions/comments regarding casting choices - our emails will not be looked at and no email will be read/responded to within that time frame either. If after that time you still feel the need to reach out, we ask that you remain professional and respectful. Hateful or Disrespectful emails - from students or parents - will not be tolerated and could affect your spot in the show and/or future castings.
Sunday, January 25th, 2026 in the theater
4PM-6PM
What is a callback?
A callback means that the directors would like to see an actor again, perhaps to hear them read from the script, sing a different song, or see them next to another actor. Receiving a callback does not guarantee you a specific role in the show, and not receiving a callback doesn't mean you won't be cast.
Does everyone need to attend callbacks?
Every student who auditions for Into the Woods will receive an email from the directors by 9:00 PM on Friday, January 23rd after all of the students have auditioned. This email will let them know whether or not they need to attend callbacks, however, every student should assume they will need to attend and keep their schedule open on this date just in case. Be sure to check your Madison Gmail account/the email you signed up with!
How do I prepare for callbacks?
Each student who is called back will receive an email from the directors that will provide additional information and materials. These materials should be well-rehearsed, but do not need to be memorized.
