I went to the Zoo recently and saw the most beautiful tiger there. I also keep reading these cool stories at bedtime that seem to have kind and happy tiger characters in them.
I saw a post from another wonderful art teacher recently that made tigers with Y3 students, so I wanted to give it a try with the awesome Room 2, they were 100% up for the challenge. This was an art project that the boys were happy about too!
We did a lot of steps and many art processes today, they should all be so proud of their work!
Process:
Sketching a tiger - looked at size and proportion- to fill our A3 page
Mixing green yellow and white paint for the background
Mixing orange, golden and white for the tiger using small strokes with a flat brush
creating a warm and cool watercolour page, drawing over with similar colour pastels when dry for texture
cutting out shapes- scissor skills
adding lighter parts for nose and belly
pastel for face and body details
Pasting our flowers and leaves for a jungle theme!

This weekend, I attended the NZ warbirds show with my whanau. It never ceases to amaze me, watching the old planes doing those aerial acts and shows for everyone! My children were in awe the entire time.
I thought of using this experience & showing my videos I shot as inspiration. I knew it would be something to engage the boys especially.
We made little wooden model planes and these amazing layered backgrounds and the children finished with adding their 3D piece to their art to finish it off.
I had a wonderful day & what was even better, was it was one lovely young mans first day of school! Art on Day 1, COOOOOOOL!
Process:
Made model plane from pegs and sticks & base painted them white
Blue and white acrylic paint was used to blend and give plenty of 'sky' colour to their page
grey paint to bubble wrap and randomly placed throughout for 'cloud' texture
white crepe paper scrunched and glued for more 'cloud' layers
white paint pen lines for wind and movement lines
glitter swipes, just because!
Chalk pastel around the plane and for the jet streams to give dimension when smudged out
Off cuts used as who doesnt like a rainbow jet stream?!
Media: Wooden planes, acrylic paint, crepe paper, glitter paint, chalk pastel, art off-cuts
