Pockets (Recessed Surfaces)

Sometimes we need to create pockets which are portions of a surface that are cut out and recessed.

First draw out your pocket profile you would like to cut, and then create a visual cut into your piece by offsetting the edges of your pocket profile inside the object.

Create 1 pocket cut on each of your cubes. One pocket cut should be rectangular, one should be circular/elliptical, and one can be freeform

If you want to make a pocket (recessed surface). Mark the shape you want to recess on your surface.

Try making lines that are parallel to your edges to create a pocket profile.

Offset two of the edges inside your intended pocket to create the illusion of a recessed surface.

When drawing in the interior walls of the pocket cut, think about what surface the viewer can see and which ones are going to be hidden. In this case, the two farthest walls of the pocket cut will be visible and the two walls nearest to us will be hidden.
